Guest guest
Dear Steve, I'm glad the likita japa appeals to you...as an artist, it might be a way into Sanskrit and alot of other things as well. "To practice Navarna mantra japa, one needs to get initiated into that mantra from a proper teacher. One should not do japa of this mantra from books." Satish Dear List (and Swamiji, in particular), I don't know whether you want to address this rather thorny issue of chaitanya mantras, initiation, japa practice without initiation etc.? In my many years "on the scene", I have heard alot about this..some conservative Tantrik teachers (if there can be such a thing!)will say: absolutely no practice of ANY mantra without initiation, as it can be dangerous, not to mention ineffective. Other people will hand mantras out in books; other people will charge for them (a big no no, according to scripture), still other teachers will say: one mantra only per person per lifetime. From what I know of Shree Maa and Swamiji, this would not be their approach. It is through their generosity and Grace that so many inaccessible texts and pujas have been given to those of us in the West who have been longing for this knowledge. They have lifted the veil of secrecy that surrounds so much spiritual practice (with good reason, I think). Swamiji, I wonder if you would care to comment on your view and on Shree Maa's view on this matter? Since we all seem to come from different backgrounds on the website, we must all have a different understanding regarding matra japa and it can get confusing, especially for people who may be just stepping into this practice and not at all sure what is "right" to do and what is not. Thank you, sadhvi
