Guest guest
"..Kali, In the normal course of things, I believe this is true. Alignment of the head, neck, and trunk is vital to proper movement of prana in the nadis. That said, Pandit R. Tigunait has written that according to tradition one of the great sages of the past (Dattatreya?) had a pronounced deformity of the spine. Is this along the lines of your question?Chris..." Dear Kali, I had a couple of back surgeries in the 1980s and could no longer hold lotus posture afterwards. I was worried about the prana flow etc. so I consulted with several different people. I was told that it would simply take "longer" for the Nadis to clear and the prana to flow properly if there were spinial misalignments. Sometimes, the kundalini shakti will clear these misalignments on her own. What I found helpful were the following: sitting in as upright and comfortable posture as possible (but WITHOUT straining, as the straining causes even more blockage)...and very slowly increasing my capacity. Somehow, for me, it seemed every more important to maintain a good posture for chanting texts because then you are really working with the prana, through the Sanskrit and through the breath patterns. Also, for me, t'ai chi has been immensely helpful...it is a "water" practice (meaning more feminine and "passive") and can, very slowly, help with the movement of prana (chi) and the clearing of the Nadis. if you look at the photographs of various saints (including Bhagavan Nityananda), you will see many examples of arthritis preventing "perfect posture". best regards, sadhvi
