Guest guest
Dear List, Here are the morning prayers I mentioned. I can't do the diacritical marks in Sanskrit so I hope the pronunciation is clear. The translation is Sadgur Sant Keshavadas: 1. On waking: Uttishthottishtha Govinda, Uttishta garudadhvaja/Uttishta kamalaakanta, Trailokyam mangalam kuru// (trans: Awake and rise in my hear Lord Govinda (as Divine Consciousness).Awake, my God who flies on the eagle. Arise, O spouse of Goddess of Prosperity. Bless all 3 worlds with peace) 2. Then look at both of your palms, hold them together and pray: Karaagre vasate Lakshmi Karamadhye Sarasvati/ Karamuule tu Govindah Prabhaate karadarshanam// (trans:I meditate on Lakshmi residing at the tip of the fingers and Sarasvati in the mid-palm and on Govinda at the base of the palm. I meditate on God's powers early in the morning, seeing God in my palms.) 3. Stepping onto the floor: Samudravasane Devi Parvatastanamandite/ Vishnupatni namas tubhyam/ Paadasparasham kshamasva me// (trans:Oh Mother Earth, spouse of Lord Vishnu, whose robes are the oceans, bosom the mountains, forgive me (your child) who am just to walk over you.) 4. Bathing or washing next. As you wash or bathe, chant the following or mentally repeat it: Gange ca Yamune caiva Godaavari Sarasvati/Narmade Sindhu Kaveri Jale'smin sannidhim kuru// Pusharaadyaanii tiirthaani Gangaadyaah saritas tathaa/ Aagacchantu pavitraani Snaanakaale sadaa mama// (trans:Bless with thy presence, O holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari,Sarasvati, Narmada, Sindu and Kaveri. May Puskara, and all the holy waters and rivers such as Ganga always come at the time of my bath). Sorry about the format but if you just recopy the mantras, you will see, it is a very brief and beautiful way to wake up every morning. I had been doing this sadhana for 5 years before I went to the Maha Kumbha Mela in 2001. When I bathed at the Sangham, I kept remembering all the mornings I would shower and chant these bathing mantras. You'll be surprised how short a time it takes to remember these by heart. Hope this is helpful. best, sadhvi
