Guest guest
There are atleast two ways to word the Sankalpa when worshipping for someone. Option 1 :- Assume that you are worshipping WITH the other person and so include a "cha" which is the sanskrit equivalent of 'and'. So for example, if Steve is praying for Elana , he could say Om Adya Jabudvipe etc etc .... Shri Steve CHA Elana krtaitat , shiva kamah puja karmaham karishye. Option 2:- You could say for this person's benefit 'Name of the person -asya Mangalarthat' - so in the example above it would be Om Adya Jambudvipe.... Shri Steve Krtaitat - Elanasya mangalarthat - Shri Shiva Kamaha. puja karmaaham karishye. Hope that helps JAI MAA Latha
Guest guest
Thank you, Latha, That does help. I never knew the correct way to do that. I have another request. Could you send me a copy of the Hindu Calendar that shows the beginning day of each lunar fortnight in terms of the Western Calendar. When I do my sankalpa with each puja, I have had to say the day in English because I don't know the tithau in Sanskrit. And, a big request. I need help with organizing my practice for Navaratri. I am going to take a sankalpa to keep the fast for the 10 days. What I need help with is organizing the pujas. I plan to do the Annapurna puja on March 28 at 6 pm. I don't know the order of which Goddesses are honored each day. I would like to do the appropriate pujas for each Goddess. I also will continue to do Napesvara Suprabhatam Stotram and Shiva puja each morning. Is the Sundar Kand chanted on day 9 or day 10? I thought I would do the Chandi Path on at least March 21 and March 31. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Dear Ardis, We have the Hindu calendar as a hard copy - I will see if I can scan it over the weekend. As far as the order of pujas go, I will forward these questions to Swamiji and share with the group. Thanks for raising these questions. Guest guest
That was a neat confirmation... that was just what I decided... to worship as many aspects of the Goddess as I can every day and the Sundar Kand on day 9. I don't know exactly why, but I am looking forward to this Navaratri with great joy. Perhaps it is because I made a sankalpa to do the fast and to really stretch my limits and "do all that I can do". I feel very close to Kali these days, can't leave Her out. The Chandi includes Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. This will be my first time with Annapurna. I am glad that I have the visual image of you and Maa worshipping Annapurna in Benares. Then there is Lalita, Lakshmi Puja and Sahasranam, and the new Gayatri Sahasranam. And of course, the beloved Guru Gita for my beloved Gurus. I will be in Heaven for sure! Also, Beloved, I read the Study of Chapter One of the Chandi for the first time today. What a gem! Thank you for your years of practice and depth of understanding. Tell the Holy Mother that I LOVE her little cookbook. It is so sweet. And a new Indian grocery store just opened up in Hemet so I will be able to get supplies. The picture of Her on the cover is gorgeous and radiant. Tell her I appreciate her sharing her recipes and mantras. May Navaratri be truly glorious and bliss-filled for you and Maa and all of the family, Ardis "swami_satyanandasaraswati" <swami_satyanandasaraswati > Fri, 19 Mar 2004 03:42:41 -0000 Re: Worshipping for another >What I need help with is organizing the pujas. Guest guest
Dear Ardis, I, too, am very excited about Navaratri this year. I have heard about it, but never set up to participate as now. There has been so much transformation in my life recently, wonderful openings, that I feel called to praise and thank the goddess in all her forms and manifestations as often as I can. I also just wanted to share a small story since you mentioned Hemet. I haven't been to Hemet in almost 15 years and haven't heard it mentioned in as long. My husband and I used to live in California and quite often we would pack up and drive up to Idyllwild for a hiking trips. He actually proposed to me on the top of Taquitz (sp) peak on a beautiful, soundless, sunny, wonderful day. The birds were soaring and catching the thermals, the gliders were going by--also riding the thermals. It was just so beautiful and surreal. I have such wonderful memories of the place. Thank you for mentioning it. Such beauty surrounding you all the time! Just great.
