Guest guest
Dear Group, I thought of all of you this morning. After my regular puja and morning practices, I sat in front of a very large icon of Durga on her vahana and began to chant Her 32 namesX11. Just as I began, my Abyssinian cat, Sita, managed to open the door of the puja room, come in, sniff at Devi's ghee lamp and then curl up in the lotus of my left leg, purring away as I completed the sankalpa. I couldn't resist continuing on for 11 reptitions of the Siddha Kunjika Stotram as well. then I felt as though I "had to" take up a brand new crystal mala and begin a mala of Navarna mantra. So, it seems, Durga is creating her own morning puja. thank you Latha for the beautiful puja sankalpa and I also want to simply thank each and every one of you here on this website and at Devi Mandir for re-newing my faith in the power of true satsang (a faith that had been sorely tested in recent years). Most of all, of course, my thanks go to Swamiji and Shree Ma for their purity and generosity. Jai Ma. with great love to allof you, sadhvi
Guest guest
Dear Group, My pranams to Shree Maa and Swamiji for this online forum and for making this sankalpa possible. I chanted for almost an hour today - the hour passed by in one minute , and I feel so blissful. I also played Shree Maa chanting the Navarna mantra in the background and I spent the entire time lost in her love. I just heard from my niece Preetha, in India, who is doing the first slot - 12 midnight PST - 1.30 PM IST . She and her grandmother brought a huge picture of Durga and installed Her in their altar and started off their sankalpas on a grand scale. Preetha is in the middle of her all important board examinations - high school level exams - and is giving Durga her due attention in the middle of cramming for the exams. May Durga bless and protect Preetha and make her successful in her exams too. I sent a picture of Chandi Maa to India, and my family have established Her in their altar and have all taken sankalpas for Navaratri. A lot of the people who are unable to chant the entire 32 names are doing atleast the japa of Durga - Om Hreem Shreem Dum Durgayai Namaha. A lot more people expressed a great interest and enthusiasm in joining the sankalpa the next time around once they had gotten to be more familiar with the 32 names . Thank you for this great satsangh and the opportunity to inspire each other and pass the inspiration around to everyone around us. The ripple effect. JAI DURGA MAA ! JAI SHREE MAA ! JAI SWAMIJI ! Guest guest
I am so touched by this... to hear of your family's devotion. Since I am an American and met Shree Maa and Swamiji in America, it deeply touches my heart that their efforts are spreading the true Dharma back to India as well as here in the US. The Mother is truly blessing all of us. Jai Maa!!! Jai Shree Maa!!! Jai Swamiji!!! Your story makes me feel that We Are One! Guest guest
Here at the Chandi Mandir (the name I have given my house) I will also chant the 32 names of Durga 11 times in my morning puja, again at noontime at the Livermore temple, and in the evening. Because my schedule will not permit me to commit to a specific time, I chose to "support" you all as often as I am able. My deepest gratitude to Maa for granting me this opportunity. Jai Maa! Guest guest
Dear Steve, Thank you for the great idea - this group Sankalpa. I just finished my chanting . I did 3 verses to the breath, kept my body STILL and feeling like I just had a quick pick me up drink. Feel great. Hope everyone remembers to do the 32 names with Pranayam. Inhale for the length of 'om hrim shrim dum durgayai namaha' and exhale however many verses from the 32 names as you can. And keep it consistent for the 11 repetitions. Guest guest
Latha, I am unused to chanting anything other than mula mantras, and it seems I was born rhythm challenged, so I'll be struggling just to "find my eights." But I'll do what I can and we'll see. Thanks for doing this, and thanks for inviting me. Guest guest
Dear All, I am really enjoying chanting to Her every morning with the 32 names. I am using the pranayam 1 inhalation with the Durga Mantra and two verses to the exhalation. I am finding myself yawning everytime I get to the 20th name. I've stuck with it for the entire time, but I'm not sure what to adjust. I will experiment later. The whole experience has been very opening for me. Thank you to all for this gift. Guest guest
dear Latha Nanda, Thank you SO MUCH for the pranayama suggestion regarding the 32 names of Durga. I have been doing pranayama with a particular mantra I am supposed to be working with but I have not been doing pranayama and chanting in this way...it is just WONDERFUL and I can see that I will definitely want to continue chanting the 32 names long after our sankalpa is "finished" (thank you, Steve, for the brilliant idea of doing this..what a gift!). It is so great to totally fill my body with the Durga mantra...feel it just suffusing my body with so much energy and light and then to exhale with this beautiful long mantra of names! It makes so much sense to me now that pranayama can be incorporated in this way and not just a kind of "separate practice" that is "done" before chanting. I had been chanting with a breath pattern before but not in this very specific way...many, many thanks. PS: Steve..as I'm sure others will mention, a Gayatri mantra is always composed of 24 sound syllables; that's an easy way to tell if a mantra is Gayatri or not, if you're not sure. best love, sadhvi

Guest guest
Did mine today - taking a walk around my office block after a heavy lunch. Went short of breath ...dang !!! Glorious weather ... waved to coworkers who were taking their walks during lunch time. All the time muttering the names under my breath. Not exactly conducive to remembering the 32 names. How so , very important is environment in any practice !!! I came back to my desk and restarted and finished the sankalpa. I even ignored my boss's telephone call and put him thro to voicemail. Such is my dedication . I better return his call now. Moral of the story :- sneak out 5 minutes early , get into my car and finish the sankalpa in relative peace. JAI MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
