Guest guest
Would it be the wonderful balance of the threes? Three days for Durga, three days for Lakshmi and three days for Saraswati. I just chanted the Gayatri Sahasranam Stotram for the first time. What a wonderful experience. My favorite name for Gayatri is #978 - She who loves all that is divine. And of course the yantra is based on the bindu and the triangle. And when you sit in the lotus asan you form a triangle, a very strong base. Guest guest
yes ... here is what i am learning, please correct where i go wrong: 1st 3 days ... durga the terrible, supreme power or force ... "mother durga, destroy my vices, impurities, defects ..." see her with the sword! 2nd 3 days ... developing our divine qualities ... the positive ... mother lakshmi ... last 3 days ... we have proceeded to sattwa, and are ready to attain wisdom ... we are now worshipping saraswati, divine knowledge ... the 9 days are the progressive course of the jiva, to shiva. all these 3 steps are essential. we may not short-cut them. victory to the divine mother! this is our victory as well. peace, and courage! steve ===== , Ardis Jackson <anandamama@e...> wrote: > Would it be the wonderful balance of the threes? Guest guest
I would agree that 9 days are observed for each of the 9 Durgas. Also 9 is a deific number. Multiply 9 by any other number, and then add the digits. The result will come right back to nine. It aways adds right back down to number 9. The number 9 then is self contained and self resolvent. The very nature of the mind and also the external world is problematic. The 9 Durgas are a solution to the treacherous currents of the Samsaric ocean. 9 is always self resolvent, an so it is the deific number. , "swami_satyanandasaraswati" <swami_satyanandasaraswati> wrote: > Why 9 ? > > ie. > > Why do we celebrate for 9 days? > What is the significance of the number 9 ? Guest guest
i heard that the number 108 for the mala is based on 100 mantras plus 8 to give away, but i note that 108 divides by 9 evenly into 12. steve , "rudran2" <stechiekov> wrote: > I would agree that 9 days are observed for each of the 9 Durgas. > Also 9 is a deific number. Guest guest
Namaste Swamiji, When the Gods took refuge in Supreme Mother to rid of the Illuminator of Duality, Mother became manifest on the 9th day of the month (Devi Gita). I think this to be the reason why we celebrate for nine days. 9 are the auspicious forms of Mother. 9 are the step of devotion. 9 lettered mantra - the mantra of perfection.
