OK Folks - Swamiji says we take a sankalpa EVERYDAY .....

Okey Dokey....I'm on it!

best,

sadhvi

PS: Steve: I was told by an Indian acharya that if you are Western

and haven't been raised as a "Hindu", that your gotra is Shiva

gotra, unless you take formal initiation into a gotra in India

through a Shakaracharya. This was the information I received when I

asked the same question you did a few years ago...but Maa and

Swamiji may have different advice for you. Now, though, whenever I

am at the Temple to do puja and am asked my birthstar (which I have

from Vedic astrology) and my gotra, I always say, "Shiva gotra". It

would be very interesting to hear Swamiji talk about this sometime.

There are so many Westerners who are committed to "Hindu" practices

and there is this question.Sometimes the "solution" is to take the

gotra of your guru...but Swamiji would have to tell us about

that...maybe after Navaratri, when there is time for this kind of

discussion.

Hi Steve,

The days of each lunar fortnight (pakshe) are as follows:

Day 1 - Prothaimo Accent on second syllable

Day 2 - Dwitiyo " " "

Day 3 - Tritiyo " " "

Day 4 - Chaturtho " " "

Day 5 - Panchamo " first "

Day 6 - Sastho " " "

Day 7 - Saptamo " " "

Day 8 - Ashtamo " " "

Day 9 - Novamo " " "

Day 10-Dashamo " " "

Day 11-Ekadasho Accent on first and third syllable

Day 12-Dwadasho Accent on first and second syllable

Day 13-Trayodasho Accent on first and third syllable

Day 14-Chaturdashi Accent on first and third syllable

Day 15-Purnima Accent on first and third syllable

So, today is Tritiyo.

The spelling of the names varies in different sources, but I tried to

spell them as close as I could to the actual pronunciation.

Blessings,

Ardis

thanks ardis ... to update the sankalpa to day 3, do you know if

that is on a calendar or somewhere? i have a calendar form an indian

restaurant, but don't find this ...

so today i did good, with the same whispering and coughing, but by

the time i was to repetition #11, the 32 names came through without

strain in one breath ... so i could see the rhythm sadhvi was

talking about.

Hi Steve,

I noticed a few differences between the list Latha gave you and this

list. This is the way I learned the tithis from Kamala Ma at the

Devi Mandir. Perhaps Parvati can straighten it out.
