out on the mail, giving the names, please send them to me so that I can

start. Can I do it at any time convenient and when I can concentrate.

Please do send me. And do we have to do the sankalpa also every time. and

how many times to recite. please do let me know, though i am trying to

start in the middle of the Navratri. better late than never, i guess.

namaste,

Hi,

Sometimes yawning during practice is just a temporary phase that will

simply disappear. There's a block somewhere.

Re: 32 names of Durga

Did mine today - taking a walk around my office block after a heavy

lunch. Went short of breath ...dang !!!

Glorious weather ... waved to coworkers who were taking their walks

during lunch time. All the time muttering the names under my breath.

Not exactly conducive to remembering the 32 names.

How so , very important is environment in any practice !!!

I came back to my desk and restarted and finished the sankalpa. I

even ignored my boss's telephone call and put him thro to voicemail.

Such is my dedication . I better return his call now.

Moral of the story :- sneak out 5 minutes early , get into my car

and finish the sankalpa in relative peace.

JAI MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Sankalpa is done before any undertaking

Dear Steve,

The Sankalpa is taken before any undertaking - in this case , you

would chant the sankalpa by itself - just replace the place and name

list with your appropriate information - and then do the 32 names.

The other CAPS info are the names of people who have joined the

sankalpa team - I just highlighted the people who joined newly in

CAPS. Hope there is no confusion there.

Namaste, I haven't bought a car yet. Krista got a Subaru Forester. Nice

car. I'm thinking about a 2.5 RS Sedan or WRX Sedan. I like the safety. I

like the dealership. I like the cars. I just can't decide: 165 HP or 227 HP?

Hehe. I probably don't need the HP, but I like the meaner look of the Turbo.

In the end, its just a car. Hopefully one I'll have even longer than my

This sankalpa is just for the reciting of the 32 names. Other than the caps

for the 2nd day (Dwityam), Latha capitalized the new names that were added

to the group.

can i give this back to you, so i am sure i understand:

when doing the durga puja, replace what is on page 8 [visnuh om tat

sat ... krmaham kriye] with this, including everyone's name as you

give it below?

is the sankalpa also something that is usually done "stand-alone" or

only within a puja?

plus ... sorry ... i don't understand the significance/meaning of

much of the CAPS text ... one appears to be a day ... and i can

figure out the last one ...

Re: A present for Navaratri

Namaste Lathaji,

Please share my deepest gratitude for this lovely photo of my beloved

Chandi. I just received it this morning as I have neglected my email

in favor of my observances of Navratri. What a magnificent gift it is

to have Her powerful presence with me in this form. May I be found

worthy of the many gifts She showers on me each day. Jai Chandi Maa!

On the Second Day of Navaratri, our Swamiji said to me ...

OK Folks - Swamiji says we take a sankalpa EVERYDAY .....

Okey Dokey....I'm on it!

best,

sadhvi

PS: Steve: I was told by an Indian acharya that if you are Western

and haven't been raised as a "Hindu", that your gotra is Shiva

gotra, unless you take formal initiation into a gotra in India

through a Shakaracharya. This was the information I received when I

asked the same question you did a few years ago...but Maa and

Swamiji may have different advice for you. Now, though, whenever I

am at the Temple to do puja and am asked my birthstar (which I have

from Vedic astrology) and my gotra, I always say, "Shiva gotra". It

would be very interesting to hear Swamiji talk about this sometime.

There are so many Westerners who are committed to "Hindu" practices

and there is this question.Sometimes the "solution" is to take the

gotra of your guru...but Swamiji would have to tell us about

that...maybe after Navaratri, when there is time for this kind of

discussion.

Re: Re: On the Second Day of Navaratri, our Swamiji said to me ...

Hi Steve,

The days of each lunar fortnight (pakshe) are as follows:

Day 1 - Prothaimo Accent on second syllable

Day 2 - Dwitiyo " " "

Day 3 - Tritiyo " " "

Day 4 - Chaturtho " " "

Day 5 - Panchamo " first "

Day 6 - Sastho " " "

Day 7 - Saptamo " " "

Day 8 - Ashtamo " " "

Day 9 - Novamo " " "

Day 10-Dashamo " " "

Day 11-Ekadasho Accent on first and third syllable

Day 12-Dwadasho Accent on first and second syllable

Day 13-Trayodasho Accent on first and third syllable

Day 14-Chaturdashi Accent on first and third syllable

Day 15-Purnima Accent on first and third syllable

So, today is Tritiyo.

The spelling of the names varies in different sources, but I tried to spell

them as close as I could to the actual pronunciation.

Blessings,

Ardis
