Guest guest
NAMASTE ALL , Well , the word is Hanuman's birthday will be April 4th this year, atleast according to the Bay Area Hindu Calendar. However, we are a GLOBAL family and maybe according to your calendars based on your sunrise time it could very well be that Hanu decides to celebrate his birthday on April 5th in your hometowns. So you have a choice, you can start the Purascharana and learning the Chandi on Hanuman Jayanthi - whenever that day falls for you, or you can start on April 4th - which is Purnima , and Hanu's birthday in the Bay Area. Upto you , but may I humbly recommend the 4th so that we may all be in synch. (And if that bothers you, PRETEND that you are in the Bay Area that day) For the Purascharana - a quick summary 1) 10 malas of whichever mantra you choose per day. Swamiji has recommended Om Namah Shivaya. But you are welcome to chant the Navarna, and or a combination ( Dan mentioned Navarna first, then Chandi and then Shiva mantra which is great too). WHATEVER combination works for you. 2) Please remember to chant the mantras with pranayam - So whatever mantra you are doing, inhale for 1 length of that mantra, and exhale for 10 or 20 counts of the same mantra. 3) It will be great to chant the mantra in one sitting , at the same time everyday . Again the time depends on your other commitments , so we are not going to have any time slots . This is a longer sankalpa and you should choose the time slot that works for you for the next 4 months or so. Hey , it is just a suggestion, but what about getting up at 3 am our local times , the start of brahmamuhurta, just sit up in bed, finish the 10 malas and go back to sleep ? For learning the Chandi - a quick summary 4) We all start with the same chapter each week. This week it is the Kavach. 5) At a minimum - we chant the sankalpa along with the chapter we are learning that week, atleast once a day. 6) Any questions we have , we post on the forum so that we can discuss it for everyone's benefit. 7) The chapters are to be learned or chanted at your own pace at your own times throughout the day. Also, please remember that this does not replace your existing sadhanas. So if you are chanting or learning another book, please continue to do so. Hope this addresses all the questions. I will write up a sankalpa and post it next. Are there any MORE people that would like to join in for either or both Purascharana and the Chandi, that have not already answered the poll question ? Please add your energies to the sankalpa and let us ALL learn together. LETS GET GOING FOLKS !!!! JAI MAAAAAAA Latha

Guest guest
Lynne, The page number may change depending on the edition of the Chandi Path book you have - the correct chapter IS the Armor of the Goddess. It is page 56 in the latest edition. JAI MAA Latha , "Lynne McKinnon" <omgirl@p...> wrote: > Latha, > Just to be sure, we start on page 56 of the Chandi Path Book? the armor of the goddess? Guest guest
Namaste Vaishnavi, Welcome to the group. The Chandi Path is a book describing the glories of the Divine Mother - she who tears apart thoughts. The book is translated and transliterated in English by Swami Satyananda Saraswati and is available at http://www.shreemaa.org/bookstore.htm Purascharana - there is a thread on what Purascharana means a few days ago. I would encourage you to check it out for more details. Basically a Purascharana is to chant a specific mantra for a certain number of times, for a certain number of days , followed by offerings. In this group, we are starting a Purascharana TODAY - ie 4th April or Hanuman Jayanti - many of us are chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" 1000 times every day for the next 4 months . There are some people doing other mantras too . If you are interested in joining us that will be wonderful. All you have to do is to chant "Om Namah Shivaya" or another mantra of your choice for 1000 times a day. Nothing else required. We are also starting on learning the Chandi today. We are starting with the Kavach - the Armor of the Goddess. If you can get a copy of the book, you would be very welcome to join us. The plan is to learn one chapter for a week and then move on to the next chapter. You can post any questions you have on the chapter that you are learning and we can all discuss it. Welcome to the group JAI MAA Latha , rg vaishnavi <vaishnavirg> wrote: > Namasthe! > I joined in the group just 2 days b4.What is the chandi path book. Can u send me it?Where is it available? What is purascharana means? Please tell me details. When shud it b done?Tell me the power of this purasharana n reading chandi.I havebeen initiated by Swami Ranganathanandaji of Ramakrishna order. > Jai ma > Vaishnavi > > > Lynne McKinnon <omgirl@p...> wrote: > Latha, > Just to be sure, we start on page 56 of the Chandi Path Book? the armor of the goddess?
