i am going by the description in the Devi Gita page 148, also called

Virasana ... seems like these asanas go by many names, maybe?

oh, i see, the description goes to the next verse ... NOW i see why

it is a hero posture, one would indeed have to be heroic to grab the

toes around one's back like that ...

but it then says that is optional ... whew!

do i have that right? this is then the hero posture, just not 100%

heroic?

fortunately i printed out that post a latha's so i have that to

refer too ... and ardis's post on the lunar changes was also a huge

help, as well as the names of the months ... your post here confirms

that, thanks so much ...

how is this all going for you, chris? btw, are you one of the

fortunate ones who reside near the mandir?

breathing is good, i find the breath gets deeper as i go [naturally]

so i might start with 10-20 and end up with 30-40 "om namah

shivaya's" per breath. ok? latha, if you are reading let me know

your view, ok ...

the next thing is the contemplive aspect of the mantra. the durga

mantra, we have a lot of help with, as there are maa's comments on

that mantra on the back of the book DURGA PUJA.

any thoughts/comments on the meaning, feeling, or visualization of

this mantra? i tend to visualize the cover of the shiva puja book

these days ...

Dear Bingo,

"breathing is good, i find the breath gets deeper as i go [naturally]

so i might start with 10-20 and end up with 30-40 "om namah

shivaya's" per breath. ok? latha, if you are reading let me know

PLEASE keep your breathing and count CONSISTENT for the ENTIRE

pranayam.

I know it is tempting to add on as the pranayam expands, but please

desist that impulse to chant more.

If you can start with 30 , GREAT . Please continue with 30.

IF you start with 10, please finish with 10 ... Please ?

Steve,

It's going well.

This mantra, "Om namah Shivaya" has a connection with me already, so

I do not have to remember anything other than who Shiva is. When I'm

chanting I just kind of see the shakti as it forms, sometimes inside,

sometimes near the mouth (I think).

When I'm doing internal japa, I try to bring the mantra up as high as

I can, but often just go where Shakti does. I don't have specific

instruction about visualization with this mantra, so I don't tend to

do anything specific. Although the other day, I visualized the black

lingham surrounding my body, as I thought of the nyasas and the

presence of Shiva in my body (I had encountered a stubborn block at

anahata). A Mother appeared for a second as I did this. I did not

recognize her. She was dressed in white and was looking down. When

she saw me she disappeared.

Yesterday, I tried visualizing the written form of the mantra as I

did silent japa. I was only partially successful. Although when I

imagined the mantra scrolling across the screen of my mind like a

banner ad, I found I could increase the speed of my japa during that

time when my mind was slowing down.

The Chandi is also going well, although it is still a struggle to

read the Sanskrit. It takes me two hours (or more)just to go from the

beginning through the Kavach. I was thinking I might build on the

practice, adding the new chapter as we go on each week, but I don't

know if I will be able to. As it is, the Kavach is almost a blur by

the time I reach it, and I have to struggle to fathom the words. Then

too, my joints are aching as if on fire by that time, though the

Shakti is very nice.
