Guest guest
Dear Steve, I am a Hanuman FANATIC!!!!! I just LOVE him!!!There is a small book, "Hanuman" by Chitralekha Singh and Prem Nath (published in INdia)..also a WONDERFUL book "Hanuman in Art, Culture, Thought and Literature" by Shanti Lal Nagar (also publ. in India). Krishna Das lent me the second book around the same time Swamiji sent me the CD for the Hanuman puja...There is just alot of information in it...You can check the Indian book websites..(like Nataraj books), look in the back of "Hinduism Today" magazine for other Indian websites that have books and, armed with these two titles, you're on your way! You have that book , "Devi, the Mother Goddess", I know. On page 79, it tells about Hanuman being the guardian of stri-raga, the kingdom of women (of Devi). He is generally considered to be the 11th Rudra of Shiva. I know he has some other very deep esoteric significance and I've been trying to discover what it might be...but not having the information yet. If you look up "Hanuman" on line, you'll come across alot of interesting web-sites (but you have probably already done this). One personal story: again, set at the Kumbha Mela in 2001. Before I went to Allahbad, I did not have this passion for Hanuman. After we arrived and began to walk over to the Mela grounds every day, I saw many, many Hanuman temples lining the pathway. Then I remembered ,of course, we were in North East India and near Chitrakut, where Rama and Sita lived in the forest. Hanuman is really a beloved Deity there. At the Mela, there were many huge murtis of him but the most amazing thing was that every day, at a particular time, men dressed with monkey masks and wearing long golden tails would run through the Mela, shouting, "Mahavira Hanumana Ki Jai". We would be walking along and suddenly hearing the sounds of drumming and shouting, then the army of monkeys would run by...it was just amazing! Then in some of the enclosures you would find Hanuman Temples and everyday would be 108 recitations of the Chalisa by large groups of devotees. Do you have or know the "Hanuman Chalisa"?? There is a beautiful Hanuman Temple in New Mexico founded by devotees of Neem Karoli Baba. best, sadhvi
Guest guest
Steve, Hanuman is an encarnation of Shiva (perhaps the only documented one, he served Ram / Vishnu to find Sita in the Ramayana). I think your correlation between he and Shiva is perfect. Never doubt your feelings, they are always pointing toward your truth. Never let a thought get in the way of your truth. Never let the mind cause you doubt about your spiritual experiences. Mind cannot have spiritual experiences, they are mutually exclusive. Your inner Hanuman is wonderful, be him. Perhaps your mind misunderstood the experience, but that does not diminish the experience at all.
