Guest guest
I would like to share my understanding and learn from the rest of the family different ways we could look into this verses ; Verse 1 Om The Night of Duality gives individuality in many forms and times perceivable by the divine power of sense If Duality is the night then unity would be the morning and the dawn is definitely the in between. In duality the recognition of “I” and “Maa” exist but in unity only Maa exist .We are all moving from duality to unity . The ego “I” is called individuality here. And individuality are in many forms (to name few Lathaji, Parvathj, Swamiji, Rudranji, etc. etc) And how do we perceive this forms through our power of sense ( The 5 senses are actually helping define our individuality) Through this senses we also distinguish time as past present and future .But when we go beyond this five senses we would realize our unity with Maa) The Night of Duality is Mahamaya herself giving this individuality(limitation) and later through Herself as Sister Dawning of Light removes the ignorance of individuality by giving us the knowledge to attain union with Her again Verse 2 Omnipresent, immortal, the Goddess of places high and low; darkness is repelled by light She who creates the night the duality which is darkness is also the essence of dawning light as well . She is called “Sister” to show that they are actually not different but related to each other . They are not separate Goddess but have interrelationships (Mahakali,Maha Lakshmi and Maha Saraswathi they are actually Chandi Maa) . Furthermore She is omnipresent and immortal, she is everywhere and always existed .That means even though we see a different distinct goddess called Night of Duality and Sister Dawning light (later) She was the ever present(omnipresent) and always existed (immortal)at the background as one Goddess. This means the Night of Duality and Sister Dawning light are just different manifestation of the same immortal ever existing Maa. And Swamiji explain why different manifestation was done by Her . This is done by Her because “darkness is repelled by light” To remove the ignorance (darkness) of individuality cause by the senses through knowledge(light)of our unity with Divine Mother . How do we realize and experience this knowledge of unity – Chandi Path (recitations of Chandi sadhana just like the businessman and the King) .So who removes the individuality- the Divine Mother that is why She took such a manifestation Verse 3 She gave definition to Her sister, the Dawning Light, the Goddess who comes. And the darkness departs. She gave definition. That means the Divine Mother who is at the background actually gave definition to Herself as again as Dawning Light. She gave measurement to Her own self that is why she is Mahamaya .When there is light than darkness must depart. When by sadhana we have realized our unity with Divine Mother then off course our individuality would disappear. Shree Maa cook not for her individual self but as Divine Mother cooking for all Her children. Bhagawan Ramakrishna said the I have left the cage (his body) long ago now only Maa resides in there. Here Swamiji says “And the darkness departs”. You do not have force it to go but it would go by itself once Dawning Light comes. This means there is no need to force yourself to lose your individually , just continue with best of your ability in sadhana and Maa herself would remove the ignorance of individuality within See all this reappearing again in coming chapters in Chandi Path under different name . Feel there is a relationship between individuality and Great Ego , Night of Duality and Remover of Darkness, the wolves again as the Forces of Duality and the list could go on and on................................... This is my understanding of the these verses according to my spiritual capabilty. My sincere apologies for any misunderstanding. Love to hear input from the rest of our family.............................................. Jai Maa !!! Guest guest
Namaste Krishnaji, Thank you for your time and patience to write so elaborately from your inner understanding on the first three verses of the Vedoktam Ratri Suktam. I like your comparison of the Night of Duality to Mahamaya - She is the one who creates the boundary and She is the one when pleased that removes the boundary - Chapter 1. One of your other point's - we dont have to try to lose our individuality and that the Goddess will do it for us when we do Sadhana - got me thinking . Too often, I have spun my mental wheels on the idea behind non- duality as in losing one's individuality - is it being more unselfish , is it suppressing all activities that boost one's ego ... what did it mean ? Then I understood that even these activities - boost one's ego - that "I" have given up or "I" am more unselfish etc etc. Anything that starts with an 'I' ends with an 'I' EXCEPT the "I will do more sadhana" . "I" really cant win against "me" . My formula - thanks to Maa and Swamiji - is now very simple. I continue to live my life - understanding that the Goal is the union with the beloved . So I structure my outer activities in such a way that they will support my inner growth. But what makes the difference , is SADHANA. Sadhana is step-by-step - from the outer world that I know, to an inner world that I now just get glimpses of .. something akin to what Maureen had beautifully described in her last post. Something happens when one does Sadhana ! It happens ... surely as day follows night. My thanks to Swamiji and Maa for showing us tools and a path and very precise instructions ... and supervising us with love. Jai Maa and thank you for the discussion. Guest guest
Latha, Your comments about sadhana are just SO true! Sadhana, sadhana, sadhana! In the end, to borrow a phrase from someone else, what else is there in life to do?
