Dear Steve and Latha,

This subject is closest to my heart!!!! One of the things I love

about yagna/homa is that it is a way to literally HEAL the forces of

Nature ,those forces that do so much to constantly support us,

without asking anything in return. I love the idea of sending out

this mantra into the Universe as a group.

A couple of years ago, before I moved to the seaside town I am

living in now, Iused to live in an old factory building near a

swamp. Every morning, as the sun came up, I used to go out onto the

marsh and chant the Shanti mantras from the Shiva Puja (pps.30 and

31). I swear that by the end of a month, there were several birds

waiting every morning and "chanting along" with me....there's

something about Sanskrit!!! The interconnection between human beings

and the world of Nature that permeates the Vedas is really so

inspiring to me. Has anyone here ever read a book called, "River

Sutra" by Gita Meta? I just read it for the second time this week.

For those who haven't been to India...it's like a trip into

everything mysterious and wonderful about that country and, for

those of you who have spent time there, it awakens a longing to

return....and, for those lucky few who LIVE there...an opportunity

to explore an unfamiliar part of India. It is really a wonderful

book. Although it's fiction (set in a series of intertwined short

stories), it is permeated with the bhava of devotion and chock full

of fascinating information.

Anyway, I'm all for the mantra japa! Also, I am going to a very

major Chandi Homa on May 8th. It's being held at a friend's home and

the Shaivite priest from our local Temple is officiating, plus a

Mahamandeleshwar coming from India..and lots of guests. I will be

doing seva for it for the next couple of weeks. I would like to ask

each person on the list to think of a boon they would ask Devi

for....limited to one word if possible. I will "collect" them and

offer at the proper time.

best,

sadhvi

Nice!

There are so many good choices, but I would ask for "Harmony" for my boon at this time.

Thanks,

Surya
