Guest guest
Hi Karen, Yes! Thanks for that cleaning recipe. Also here are some good alternatives that I learned about: take a lemon, cut in half and squeeze into bowl with kosher salt, rub the mixture (using the lemon as a "sponge") onto the brass, let set a bit and rinse....I just cleaned a giant Ganesha that way on Wednesday and he is very shiny. Also..amazingly enough: toothpaste! Rub on with hand or use a brush for hard-to-get-at places rinse off and final rinse with as hot as water as possible...shine with cloth (this is great for silver). Also Tammarind...available in Indian grocery stores...make a paste with water, apply, let set for just a very short while (as it is very acidic), rinse thoroughly and shine...I used to clean large brass peacock floor lamps with this and it works!! None of these are toxic and all can be used on puja dishes so that the amrita doesn't taste like Noxon! best, sadhvi PS: OH, also...if you happen to have a big supply of Vibhuti...it works as a cleaning agent on metals...we used to use it for the brass lamps in this Temple where I did seva...obviously, though, not an "every-day" cleaning product. It's not good on silver...too abrasive.
