When we do the nyas for the Navarna - we say om aim Angushtabhyam, Om hrim tarjanibhyam etc.When we do the nyas for the durga puja , we say om hram Angushtabhyam, om hrim tarjanibhyam etc - the expansion of "hrim" Why is it that we do just the nyas on "hrim" and not on the entire mantra "om hrim shrim dum durgayai namah " ? And similarly why do we only do nyas on "krim" and not on "om hrim shrim krim parameshwari kalike namah" ? ie why not : Om hrim Angushtabhyam Om Shrim Tarjanibhyam Om Dum Madhyamabhyam Om Durga Anamikabhyam Om yai Kanishtikabhyam etc Swamiji's response :- I have never seen the nyasa as you have written it. There are literally hundreds of nyasas, and you can make your own. Or you can use the ones as they appear with scriptural references.
