Not an answer but like to share some interesting info. In south India there is a place called Mandapalli. The Shiva Linga here is beleived to be installed by Shani himself. People who beleive they are afflicted by Shani, go to this place and do abhisheka to the Shiva linga there. In that sense, Shani is equated, or in other words seen as an aspect of Shiva and worshipped in that sense for that moment. Abhisheka is done with some kind of oil(sesame seed oil) I think. A medieval telugu poet(Dhurjati) who is a devotee of Kalahastivara (Shiva linga installed in SriKalahasti- A great Shaiva kshetra) writes that no graha can dare to afflict one who worships Parameshvara/Shiva constantly. I welcome corrections reagarding procedures/info on Mandapalli.
