Guest guest
In Verse 24 the Remover of Darkness gives the heads of Passion and Anger to She Who Tears Apart Thought and says, "Now in the war of sacrifice, you yourself will kill Self-Conceit and Self- Deprecation." I would appreciate comments on the term "war of sacrifice." Does that term refer to the battle to kill thoughts? I wonder at the use of the word sacrifice. Any ideas out there? Thanks-Karen and Mike
Guest guest
karen and mike my feeling is this: although we are seeing this in the chandi path as a dualistic battle [which it is] it is also a conscious sacrifice within unity on our part to give up these things [indulgence in emotional reactions, etc.] therefore sacrifice is another way of looking at the same thing, in defeating [or giving up] passion and danger. steve , "Karen and Mike" <karenborak@e...> wrote: > In Verse 24 the Remover of Darkness gives the heads of Passion and > Anger to She Who Tears Apart Thought and says, "Now in the war of > sacrifice, you yourself will kill Self-Conceit and Self- > Deprecation." Guest guest
Dear Karen and Mike, This is what I gleaned from Swamiji's online teachings available at http://www.shreemaa.org/classes.htm Swamiji says - the whole Chandi is a war of sacrifice - yudh yajna , where we are surrendering all of duality and uniting with Her.Its a battle to win the light. It a dharma yudh- a battle to win the dharma. It is not a battle that happened in history or "up there". yuj - means to unite. Yajna - sacrifice or to give up something for others. In chapter 4 of the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna says "Some people sacrifice their inflowing to their outflowing breaths. Some people sacrifice their knowledge , some people sacrifice their karma , or wisdom to unite with God and in the process surrendering all of our selfishness. The yajna is surrendering all our selfishness. Our sacrifice is the surrender of all the defects of our character. So here is the yudh yajna where we are battling with our egos to surrender all our selfishness. We send out all the pure vibrations and pure desires as our army to deflect all the selfish thoughts and impure thoughts that come in our way. Thank you for raising this question. Helped me introspect more.
