Guest guest
Response : A sankalpa is a precise statement of purpose - where (location) , when (time) and who is doing for what purpose. You have to only read the phrases highlighted in bold to get your complete sankalpa ---Location Om Adya Jambudvipe (this refers to our planet Earth )America deshe (the name of your country)AAAAAA pradeshe (the name of your state - replace AAAAAA with the name of your state)BBBBBB Nagare (the name of your city - replace BBBBBB with actual city )Devi Mandire (the name of your temple if you have one, else default to Temple of the Goddess aka Devi Mandir ) --- Time Jyeshta Maase (the name of the lunar month that you are in - in this case it is Jyeshta .. you can ALSO replace with the standard solar month if you DONT have a lunar calendar handy)Krishna Pakshe ( Pakshe means fortnight - Krishna means Dark or waning fortnight, and Shukla means Bright or waxing fortnight)Dwadasam Tithau (Tithi or tithau means day - here it is Dwadasam Tithau or the 12th day, Again we know this because we have lunar calendar handy, else replace with 14th June) --- Who is doing the sankalpa and for what purpose Satyananda Gotra ( your lineage ... in this case if you dont have a gotra and most Americans DONT , you can replace with Satyananda in the honor of the teacher whose lineage you got the teaching)Karen CHA Mike kritaitat ( who are the doers - in this case Karen AND Mike)LJ-asya mangalarthaat ( for the welfare of LJ - replace with anyone;s name or omit this line entirely if you are just doing the puja without expecting it to benefit any one person)Shri Shiva Kaamah (for the benefit or for pleasing Lord Shiva or any other deity )Puja Karmaham (doing the worship)Karishye (please accept it).Do You ? Guest guest
latha, this is really good. i am glad karen and mike asked. it is good also there is latitude on that calendar thingie, i find it is difficult at first even if you have one if you are not accustomed to it. question -- isn't there somewhere a statement on what the sankalpa is? [recite a mantra 1,000x for example] and could you confirm -- you are supposed to recite the sankalpa for the particular vow on each day it is active? also on time, if it is for a duration where is that expressed? [for one month, etc.] thank you lathaji. steve , Latha Nanda <lathananda> wrote: > Question : > "Mike and I are would like help on writing a sankalpa correctly and understanding the parts. We have pretty much just rotely recited the ones that Latha has given us and the ones in the puja books, not really understanding. We know there are parts that should change with the month and moon, right? Which parts are they and how do we > change them?
