Sat- same as Satya - Truth Guru - "Gu" - darkness , 'Ru' - takes away. So Guru is one who takes away the darkness. Parampara - Lineage or ancestry. Hope that helps. Guest guest
SAT GURU = TRUE GURU SAT = TRUE GU = FROM DARK RU = TO LIGHT. The highly enlightened person who takes us from our darkness to light is called a Guru. SAT GURU means , he who knows the past, present and the future., and whose gospel fits to the past, present and the future. His words, deeds are nothing other than truth. Truth and dharma are eternal. Similarly sat guru is eternal.he becomes Godly and God. Guru parampara talks about the ancestry or lineage of the Gurus. Hindu mythology says lord Shiva, wanted to remove the agjyana (darkness) in the minds of the people. And so he took a vidya roopam (form of knowledge), in a balya form(youth), and sits facing south (dakshinamurthy), and he has 7 main deciples. From them, the guru parampara starts down the line. Guru , satguru, Jagatguru (Guru to the world), Paramaguru, Parabara guru & Parameshti guru & finally God. This is the gradation followed in guru parapara ( increasing order). When ever a person meditates on his Guru, he meditates on his Guru , as if the Guru is sitting on a 1000 petaled lotus flower. Then we contemplate on his Guru’s ancestry .. For eg: Adhi Shankara was the great Indian Saint, who gave new dimensions to Hinduism. He was called Jagat Guru. He came out with the doctrine of advaita Vedanta. If we look at his guru parampara, it goes like this. Adhi Shankara’s guru = Govinda Bhagwath pada,(Paramaguru) Govinda Bhagavadpada’s guru = Gowdapada (Parabara guru ) Gowdapada’s guru = Patanjali. ( Parameshti guru ) May Guru kripa ( Guru’s grace), lead us kindly to light. best regards, aravind. --- Karen and Mike <karenborak wrote: > What do the words, satguru and parampara, mean? > > > ______________________ India Matrimony: Find your partner online. http://.shaadi.com/india-matrimony/
Guest guest
Excellent! Thank you. Parabara is actually Parapara. In Srividya, they have mantras for Guru, ParamaGuru, Parapara Guru, and Parameshti Gurus. These mantras vary depending on the diksha names of their respective Gurus. Recital of these Guru mantras and daily remembrance of these Gurus and their mantras is very important in Srividya.
