Guest guest
Thank you for sharing that Bingonandaji Well, I just got off my time slot. I read the English to absorb the meaning of the Guru. Here are some beautiful verses that struck me 102 - Do not give up on the Guru even if he moves according to his own rhythm. 103 - Always speak the truth before the Guru. 104- One who speaks to the Guru with egotism , to attain victory in argument may become a Brahmaraakshasah ( HEY KAREN AND MIKE - HERE'S ONE TRIVIA QUESTION FOR YOU - WE HAVE READ OF BRAHMARAAKSHASAH ELSEWHERE IN THE CHANDI - CAN YOU SPOT THE CHAPTER ? ) or a demon filled with pride of learning 108- Only those who perform selfless expressions of love for the Guru have understood the wisdom of the Vedas. Here is one verse (94) that stumped me - Can anyone help ? Verse 94 - We bow to he by who five functions are performed : creation, circumstance, transformation, determination and compassion . (How are these five FUNCTIONS ? Can anyone help ?) And then after I finished the Guru Gita, I filled in the time with my first ever chant of the Lalita Trishati - this is part 3 of The Guru and the Goddess available at http://www.shreemaa.org/bookstore.htm I learned that people get to hear of the 300 names of the Playful mother only after they have learned or chanted the 1000 names , which is very true in my case. Is this true of the others reading this post ? Has anyone directly chanted the Lalita Trishati without chanting the Lalita Sahasranam first ? I would be interested to know. JAI MAA !! What a glorious day ! JAI GURU !!!
Guest guest
===== Verse 94 - We bow to he by who five functions are performed : creation, circumstance, transformation, determination and compassion . (How are these five FUNCTIONS ? Can anyone help ?) ===== let's see... how are they functions ... hmm ... the purpose being realization ... the circumstances being as varied as the lives of devotees and the play of God ... the Guru's actions are based on principles prior to the details, so to speak. so He/She is operating at the level of functions, or principles, and the details of circumstance more or less cloak or reveal them. He/She creates the circumstance for transformation with determination and compassion. Whatever circumstance exists is tranformed to the greater purpose. Since their's is a greater benign purpose that is prior to the enactments of Maya, then actions within Maya are undertaken via function or principle. the functions support the ideal. when action is seen as function, the mind is held to ideals rather than lost in the details of Maya. so the Guru identified with greater functions uses great principles as levers to lift devotees out of limitation, or as oars to row our crafts towards the ever-present goal of knowledge/realization. steve c. aka bingoanandajiashwari , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > Thank you for sharing that Bingonandaji > > Well, I just got off my time slot. Guest guest
One requires initiation into Panchadashakshari mantra to recite Lalita Trishati. , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > Thank you for sharing that Bingonandaji > > Well, I just got off my time slot. Guest guest
Namaste Latha, thank you for organizing the Guru Gita chanting. It was wonderful! I would like to add a little to the five functions discussion. When you ask how are these five Functions... I do not know exactly what you are asking. Perhaps what is their purpose, why do they function, how do they function etc. But I will share what I have learned about it. It is my own way of expressing what Steve wrote. I hope this is helpful. The Dancing Shiva represents these five functions. Always there is change. Always for everthing there is creation, preservation and transformation. And always in every circumstance we have a moment of choice, our moment of awareness, when we may be swept away by thoughts and feelings or we may witness with detachment. These opportunities arise with each new circumstance, and we will choose in accordance with our deepest determination. And then always there is God's Grace, compassion, that as we choose, we will receive what we want. This is the dance. Its function or purpose, as Steve said, is realization. It is a function in that it is the mechanism by which we grow towards our goal. It is beautiful, because in each new moment, each changing circumstance, we have an opportunity to grow towards God. It is God's gift to us.

What a glorious day ! > JAI GURU !!! ABSOLUTELY TRUE IN MY CASE! THE TRISHATI is such a beautiful paean to the Divine Mother! Swamiji's voice is also rich when he sings the Trishati. I have been doing the 1000 names for about 2-3 years now (mostly sporadically), and only in the past 2 or 3 months or so, have i stumbled upon the 300 names. I have never chanted it myself; just heard the chant... I think chanting it needs initiation into the 15-lettered or the 16-lettered mantra (I forget which)... Right now, I am not initiated, so am not chanting, just listening. . Jai Ma!

(How are these five FUNCTIONS ? Can anyone help ?) Dear Latha, I, too, give thanks for the steady flow of blessings that manifests through this forum. thank you all! jai Maa! About the 5 functions... here is how it appears to me right now.. These are the Guru in our life, the function of the Guru for each of us. Creation: here we are ; here is everything in being. Circumstance: the Guru places us in these circumstances for our awakening, growth and opportunity to serve. Transformation: it is the Guru who transforms us into the fullness of our being - the very Guru!Determination:the Guru is committed to never leave us, to take us all the way, to never waiver for the Goal. Compassion: ahh, yes.. it is only the Guru's compassion, mercy and grace that makes this all possible for us. Jai Maa!
Guest guest
Namaste all, I realize that the tradition is that one requires initiation to chant just about anything......but Maa and Swamiji have taken all this time and effort to transliterate, translate (into English and Bengali), print, etc all these different texts. I can't imagine they mean for us just to look at them or put them on the shelf to look pretty while we wait to be initiated. JUST DO IT. Swamiji has said that there are many levels of initiation. I believe His making these texts available is one level of it. Let your intention be true and the Goddess will guide you. Jai Maa!!!
