Guest guest
Namaste Brothers and Sisters, I would like to share my interesting journey with Guru Gita recitation on auspicious Guru Poornima . The fruit of sankalpa of this sadhana I dedicated to the holy feet all the teachers that I have known(that means all of you as well) . I tried applying navarna mantra while inhaling and exhaling a verse of Guru Gita per breath sitting in one asana (sukasana ) Being in my temple room 10 minutes before the 9.00 pm allocated for me and my mind kept thinking about other family members all over the world completing the sacred sankalpa at that very moment . Swamiji picture was glowing with bewitching smile as if he is telling me this is a group sankalpa and you must complete it successfully ……… It took 45 minute for this effort and I got to admit the legs just could not wait to be stretched ( strange, sitting 2 to 3 hours for puja did not seem to pain this much !!! ) During this small yet grueling session. I just kept thinking of my sankalpa to Latha and other family members here and it gave me strength to carry on without breaking the asana. Of course tears flowed thinking about all (I suppose it was the collective bhava from other family members that overwhelmed my heart at that moment) .Thank for all for this group sankalpa.................................... Now for some silly questions ; 1) Verse 32 states gurubrahma guruvisnurgururdevo mahesvarah gurureva parabrahma tasmai srigurave namah The Guru is Brahma , the Guru is Visnu , the Guru is Lord Maheswara . The Guru is actually the Supreme Divinity and therefore we bow down to the respected Guru . Therefore what does this mantra mean then ; gurubrahma guruvisnurgururdevo mahesvarah gurursakshat parabrahma tasmai srigurave namah 2) Verse 52 states We bow to the circle which surrounds the Guru, to the Supreme Lord ,our Guru and the three other Gurus(Param, Parampara,Paramesthi) to Ganapati,to the three places of worship of bhairava (the gross body, subtle body and causal bodies), to the number of attained beings, to the three children, to the two feet, to the order of ambassadors to the circle , to the heroes sixteen sixty four and nine , to the five heroes that sacrificed, to the respected makers of garlands , by means of the king of mantras , the Guru Gita . Q1 – Who is refer to by Param , Parampara and Paramesthi as the Supreme Lord and our own guru is already cover earlier ? Q2- Who are the three children ? Q3 – Who are the heroes 16, 64 and 9? Q4 – Why the 5 heroes sacrificed? 3) Verse 92 talks about meditation of guru at lotus of the heart whereas verse 95 talks about meditating on the guru in the lotus of the head . Which is the ideal place ( head or heart) and time to meditate on Guru(verse 95 seems to say in the morning) I was under the impression heart for istha devata and Gurudeva in the lotus of the sahasra on the crown of the head....... 4) Verse 138 refers to different type of asana as below ; Black deer skin – attainment of wisdom Tiger skin- self-realization Kusha grass – attainment of wisdom Blanket - attainment of all but beware verse 137 states sitting on just any piece of cloth ( not set aside specifically for praying) has negative impact as well. Verse 139 states the kusha (or durva too) mat should covered in white blanket Is ok to just sit on kusha grass mat or need to put white blanket on them as well while doing ordinary puja or only for Guru Gita recitation? What is relevance of sheepskin used in Devi Mandir tradition if I may ask? I realize for person who heart is overwhelming in devotion this would not be a barrier at all but for those us who are still a child this basic preliminaries might be a good help……………………… Any answer or suggestion from all are welcome …………………………………. Jai Maa!!!Latha Nanda <lathananda > wrote: Happy Guru Poornima !As Swamiji blessed us , may we all be blessed with the joy of having found the Guru. What a beautiful day this is - our joint sankalpa, and then I gathered all our thanks and requested Shree Maa and Swamiji to accept them as the representatives of all of our Gurus .Hope the sankalpas are going well and people can write in to share their bhava.
