Guest guest
hi jay! how long ... for me, many hours. for someone who does it a lot, i think maybe a 3 hours. devnath reads it every day so he is a good judge. we talked about this a while back ... and sort of remembered, it doesn't really matter ... and, some people insert the English in the recitation, etc. it is sort of, whatever works. there is a cd out of shree maa and swamiji reciting it ... you would love it i bet ... that is probably the best guide ... the total length of the recording as real player adds it up is 5 hours and 4 minutes. steve , "Jay Dayal" <dayals@c...> wrote: > Dear all > > Jai Maa Durga! > > 1. Guest guest
I've read it twice in Sanscrit cover to cover, it took many many hours because I'm not very sanscrit aware. However, I suggest you take a sankalpa to read a portion of it in Sanscrit, or maybe just read the whole thing in english in one sitting, even that will take a while. The other more Chandi text aware disciples will be able to tell you what Sanscrit you can do at first. In fact it tells you in the book itself what to read, but I don't remember what it says. While reading the book I suggest you not try to understand it. I suggest you not worry about pronunciation of the Sanscrit. Instead I suggest you focus on your breath and the sounds coming out of your mouth. Focusing on the sound without focusing on the word sounds odd, but I feel it is the sounds and the space between the sounds that more closely represents goddess, not the words themselves. The whole book is a collection of road signs pointing to divinity. There are twelve levels of understanding in these signs, all the way from the base physical through the highest causal, but those understandings are not awareness, they are just more forms of Maya. The signs are varying in size and contrast, but ultimately the signs -- no matter how beautifully decorated -- will have to be left behind as you journey toward divinity. The single most important advice I can offer you on your journey is this: no matter what happens, no matter how many things appear to go right or wrong, no matter how much strife or joy you feel because of your devotion, its all perfect, its all right, its all good. There is no need to judge any experience once you allow yourself to realize that its all for Goddess. This advice is based on one of my more recent experiences. Swamiji told me after this experience: "try to not think about it." He constantly guides me with exactly what I need to hear. Jai Swamiji. May Chandi bless your sankalpa. Guest guest
Namaste Jay, We chant the Chandi at the Mandir on Sunday mornings as a group and we do 2 verses to the breath and so it takes us a nice and easy 3.5 hours, with a special Arati. I trust that you are going to chant with pranayam - Inhale for the length of one Navarna mantra and while exhaling chant one or two verses (or more ) as you are able to. Please keep the pranayam and the number of verses consistent for the recitation of that day. If time is a constraint , then you might want to consider doing the Seedha Path instead of the entire book. The Seedha Path is the shortest complete recitation of the Chandi and it involves 1) Devata Pranam 2) RgVedoktam Ratri Suktam 3) Navarna Viddhi 4) The 700 verses 5) Navarna Viddhi 6) Rgvedoktam Devi Suktam 7) Siddha Kunjika stotram followed by Arati and closing prayers. Of course you can add any section you please to the above , say Kavach one day and Argala the next if you so wanted. BEST WISHES ON YOUR SANKALPA !!!!! Tell us how you are doing !
