Guest guest
JAI MAAAAAAA !!!! I hope all of you , my satsang brothers and sisters are doing well and having a great day ! Here is something I would like to propose to the group - another of way of keeping our bhav alive and hitting our books in a playful way. How about we have a topic of the week ? This is of course in addition to any questions that you may want to ask, any ideas that you would like to discuss and any experiences that you would like to share .... ie we will put forth a topic for the week - it could be 'Faith' , ' Patience' , 'Love', 'Overcoming Fear' ,etc (you can also suggest other appropriate ones) and I request each of you to look into your books for inspiration and quote the book and the verse or verse number. At the end of the week, I will compile all our quotations into one list. You could use any spiritual text as your reference . How about we start with the topic 'Faith'. I request you to title your subject line as 'Faith' , so it will be easy for me to go thro and collect them. Also, if somebody has already quoted one verse, can I request you to not include it in yours to avoid duplication. Here is my contribution to the collection for 'Faith' Chapter 5 of the Chandi - Verse 50 Ya Devi Sarva Bhutesu Shraddha Rupena Samsthita Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah. Swamiji has translated as To the Divine Goddess who resides in all existence in the form of FAITH , we bow to Her; we bow to Her; we bow to Her, continually we bow, we bow. Guest guest
JAI MA Here is a gem from the book "Sri Ramakrishna's Sayings" 1090. There was a Certain Brahmin priest who served in a household chapel. Once he went away leaving the charge of the service in the chapel to his little son. He asked the boy to place the daily offering food before the Deity and see that He ate it. The boy, following the injunctions of his father, placed the offering before the image and silently waited. But the image neither spoke nor ate. The boy watched for a long time. He had the firm faith that the Deity would come down from the altar, take the seat before the offering and eat it. So he prayed, "O Lord, come and eat. It is getting very late; I cannot wait any longer." But the Lord did not speak. Then the boy began to cry, saying, "Lord, my father asked me to see that Thou didst eat the offering. Why dost Thou not come? Thou comest to my father and eatest his offering. What have I done that Thou dost not come to me and partake of my offering?" He cried bitterly for a long time. Then, as he looked up at the seat, he saw the Deity in a human form eating the offering! When the service was ended and the boy came out, the people in the house said to him, "If the service is over, bring out the offering." The boy replied, "Yes, but the Lord has eaten everything." In amazement they asked, "What do you say?" In absolute innocence the boy repeated, "Why, the Lord has eaten all that I offered." Then they entered the chapel and were dumbfounded at the sight of the empty dishes. Such is the power of true faith and true yearning! , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > JAI MAAAAAAA !!!! > > I hope all of you , my satsang brothers and sisters are doing well > and having a great day ! > > Here is something I would like to propose to the group - another of > way of keeping our bhav alive and hitting our books in a playful way. > > How about we have a topic of the week ? Guest guest
great topic-- faith is difficult sometimes but so important--I found that looking up the Sanskrit meaning of "shraddha" helped; shraddha makes more sense to me than the usual definition of the English "faith." here's a quote I've liked for many years (I hope the italics come through): "People often ask me if I <i>believe</i> in the Goddess. I reply, 'Do you believe in rocks?' .... The phrase "believe <i>in</i>" itself implies that we cannot <i>know</i> the Goddess, that She is somehow intangible, incomprehensible. But we do not <i>believe</i> in rocks--we may see them, touch them, dig them out of our gardens, or stop small children from throwing them at each another. We know them, we connect with them." Guest guest
Thanks. This is a good way to explain the difference between a blind belief or faith and a faith based on experience of the divine. Guest guest
Swami has recently indicated that faith is the most essential quality of a sadak. Scripture mentions something about as little faith as small grains of mustard seed as being sufficient to move mountains. Once we form a goal, faith accompanied by a series of actions becomes the fuel that brings us to its realization. , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > JAI MAAAAAAA !!!! > > I hope all of you , my satsang brothers and sisters are doing well > and having a great day ! > > Here is something I would like to propose to the group - another of > way of keeping our bhav alive and hitting our books in a playful way. > > How about we have a topic of the week ? Guest guest
Here is another reference to Faith - and it is to do with the chapter that we covered today Chapter 12 of the Chandi. The bija mantra of this chapter is Sram - Faith. Om Sram Sraddha Svarupinyai sakalaphala daatryai Brahma Vasishta Visvamitra shaapaad vimuktaa bhava Om Faith, the intrinsic nature of Faith, the Grantor of every fruit , may the curses of Brahma, Vasishta and Vishwamitra be removed. Guest guest
in the final vedic hymc on page 318 the word faith is also used ... shrudi shruta shradhivam te vadaami [kind of a loose transliteration here] means ... "hear from me the truth of Faith as I speak to you" this is said after the declaration, "through me alone all eat, all see," etc. steve , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > Here is another reference to Faith - and it is to do with the > chapter that we covered today Chapter 12 of the Chandi. > > The bija mantra of this chapter is Sram - Faith. > > Om Sram Sraddha Svarupinyai sakalaphala daatryai > Brahma Vasishta Visvamitra shaapaad vimuktaa bhava > > Om Faith, the intrinsic nature of Faith, the Grantor of every > fruit , may the curses of Brahma, Vasishta and Vishwamitra be > removed. > > JAI MAA !! Guest guest
Dear Brothers and Sisters of our beloved Group. its a very nice venture. " Ya Devi Sarva Bhutesu Maathru Rupena Samsthita Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah." Faith on Guru's words, faith on our daily prayers are very very vital. i would like to share my experience in 1997. i was working in a place called Trichy in south india.i was in marketing of lubricants and oils. it was a beautiful dream the previous day night. one of my customer ( distributor )'s mother came in the dream and says " tomorrow at 8.30am, please do come to our office. this is direction from higher ups." i didnt understand the word higher ups. bcos, it was a new customr and no way my higher ups would ask me to go there. the beautiful part of the dream is the lady was wearing a very big red sindur and clad in red dress. the next day i had my daily prayers and took the bus from Trichy bus stand to a coastal town called Nagapattinam. the bus was just crossing the new distributor's office. i was feeling disturbed. it was a fully packed bus that i was not bale to get down - even though i was very much near the front exit door of the bus. ( i have already taken my tickt to the destination - nagapattinam ). the bus stoped at Regional Engineering college - bus stop, where i had my studies. some force drove me and i got down and i went back to the distributor's place. To my surprise, i saw the elderly lady, nearly in the same way i saw her in the dream. She gave me a glass of buttermilk, and told " Sir its long since u have come here. here is your company cheque. and its God's wish that u r here today." i thanked that Mam and proceeded further in the next bus. harldy 15 kms away, the previous bus which i was travelling has collided head on with another bus from the oppsoite side - in a very narrow bridge. it was a gory sight. even now im not able to imagine. i was seated in the 3rd seat behind the driver. 6 seats behind the driver were crushed totally. IF I HADNOT DECIDED TO GET DOWN HALF WAY, I WOULD NOT BE HERE IN THIS WORLD NOW. extreemely sorry for sharing this bad experience. but, what i would like to communicate here, thru' this happening is that, trust the words of your Guru. if he asks u to jump into a well, its better to do it. (with out cross questioning - that we dont know swiming ). since the guru has told, every thing is sathya vaaku ( words of truth). lets have faith on God, and our Guru. He will take care of us. he will lead us to light, he is our saviour. " Ya Devi Sarva Bhutesu Maathru Rupena Samsthita Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah." lETS ETERNALLY BOW TO THE DEVI, WHO IS IN THE FORM OF DIVINE MOTHER . faith will take us in all hard ships to safer destinies. Guest guest
Dear Aravindji, Thank you for this personal story of divine intervention in your life. It is interesting how we as "modern" people tend to resist the instructions that are given to us through dream or intuition. We feel that everything has to be scientifically based. But Mother includes ALL; science and dream, measurable facts and intuition. A dear Hindu friend had a daughter and nephew who were supposed to be on the top floors of the World Trade Center on the morning of 9/11/01. Her nephew was late for work, very unusual for him. Her daughter's meeting was canceled at the last minute. Were they receiving divine protection? She believes they were. Thank you for reminding us of the importance of faith.
