The core of the Vedas

The Panchakshari Mantra is the heart of the Vedas. It is the core of

the very famous chapter of Vedas that stands in the middle of the

Vedas - the shata rudriyam or rudra suktam. This great Mantra of Veda

Samhitâ while hailing the God as the Lord of everything of the worlds,

salutes the God as namah shivaya cha shivataraya cha.

It is found in the center of the central Veda of the original three

Vedas (Rig, Yajur, and Sama).

Verse:

Namastaraya namah shambhave cha mayobhave cha,

namah shankaraya cha mayaskaraya cha,

namah shivya cha sivayataraya cha.

Translation:

"Homage to the source of health and to the source of delight.

Homage to the maker of health and to the maker of delight.

Homage to the Auspicious, and to the more Auspicious"

Krishna Yajur Veda, Taittiriya Samhita 4.5.8
