In Chapter 9 of the Devi Gita there is a wonderful description by

the Goddess of how to attain to the Supreme devotion. Here is

one verse I found on faith as it relates to increasing devotion:

Chapter 9 v.19

....."He sees My devotees with great faith, he listens to the

Scriptures with faith...

Throughout this scripture the Devi tells Himalayas to listen to

this knowledge with faith.

If you haven't read The Devi Gita yet it is highly recommended as

it teaches the worship

of the deity with form and the meditation on the Cosmic Divinity

beyond form and knowledge as instructed by the Goddess

herself. Please read this scripture with faith...............

This is the little story my mother told me when i was alittle

girl, some 40 - 45 years ago. It sowed the seed of Faith in my little

heart, a seed that germinated, and has grown, grown, and is growing

still into a beeg tree with deeeep roots.

Thre was a poor little father-less boy,who had to go to school

everyday through thick dark woods. He was very scared to go to school

because of this path through the woods, and wept a lot. His mother

told him that he had an elder brother in the woods, who was very busy

tending to his many cows, and so could not be with them. But, she

said, when ever he (the littlle boy ) felt the need for any help, he

just had to call ' Gopala, Gopala' , and his brother would come to his

aid.

For a long time there was no need to call this brother Gopala.

But every time he felt a little uneasy, and thought of calling his

brother, he heard the tinkling of many cow-bells, and some-times a

melody played on the flute. This reassured him that his brother was

near-by.

One day, however, the boy had to call Him. It was the teacher's

birthday, and all the other boys were bringing gifts. Our little boy's

mother could ill afford one. The boy did not want to face his teacher

without a gift. So he went into the woods and called 'Gopala,

Gopala'. A young cow-herd boy , extremely handsome , with a smiling

face, appeared before him, followed by his herd of beautiful cows.

'Brother' Gopala heard his predicament, and gave him a very

small cup of curds to be presented to the teacher. The teacher and his

wife were not pleased with this little gift - till it was found out

that the little cup never ran dry, that its supply of curds was

inexhaustible!

Who was his elder brother Gopala, but the Lord Krishna Himself,

the Eternal Cowherd!

This taught me very early in life, that 1. i could talk to

God, 2. call him when i needed help. 3. That He would hear me. 4.

that He will come and help me.

To this day, it is true. The vague 'God' of my child-hood has

crystallised into 'Devi' or 'Maa".

i have also found that Faith means giving your all, there is

no half-way.

' Faith guarantees nothing, but demands every thing '. - i

heard these words in a Kung-Fu movie!

Pranams to Swamiji , and all my fellow-travllers on The Path.

Jai Maa !
