Why would you want a guru?

First of all, what is a guru? Gu means darkness and ru means to take

away. So a guru is one who takes away the darkness.

There seems to be a lot of darkness in our world. And I don¹t think

all the Zoloft and Paxil in the pharmacy is going to work. Nor will

the palliatives of the sense pleasures.

But in my experience, the guru is the one who teaches us how to fall

in love. This love is a special kind of love. It is very strong and

passionate. A love that can give you a focus that lasts a lifetime.

But it is pure, unconditional and free. Not the love of movies and TV

shows or even of romance and marriage. A very special love. A

lasting love.

And the relationship between guru and devotee or guru and disciple is

also unique. It is eternal. It is beyond time and space. This

cannot be explained intellectually. It has to be experienced.

The guru gives everything and takes nothing. He/she gives knowledge

and wisdom and most of all their example. They show us how to enter

a relationship with divinity.

What more could you want?
