Guest guest
Dear All, Here is the next topic Swamiji has suggested that we cover for the next fortnight - Preparation. Swamiji says to cover - Preparation: body, mind, soul, and then puja organization, yajna samagri, ityadi. BTW - ityadi means etc. Lets go for it folks - what IS needed to prepare for a sadhana filled life ? How do we organize our routines to give priority to set time exclusively for God ? How to prepare so that at all times we think of God ? JAI MAA ! Latha
Guest guest
For me, first comes cleanliness. Cleanliness of the body, cleanliness of the clothes to be worn for puja, cleanliness of the whole house (after all, who are we inviting to our puja? The Mother of the Universe!) and lastly the cleanliness and organization of the altar. The altar needs to express the beauty of our relationship with the Divine. As our Mother sings "Satyam (Truth), Sivam (Infinite Consciousness), Sundaram (Beauty). So the altar should be organized according to Truth (understanding), Consciousness and Beauty. You don't hire an interior decorator to plan your altar. It is a very personal expression of your inner longing for the Divine. When planning a puja, we need to organize all the ingredients and vessels. All the vessels need to be clean, shining glittering clean. If we can, we purchase beautiful flowers to offer and just to beautify the space. In purifying the space, we purify ourselves. All the steps we take to prepare for puja help to intensify our longing to see and feel our Divine guests. We try to gather all the ingredients mentioned in the puja books. We buy fresh, delicious fruits or cook pure food. If there are some ingredients that we can't find, we offer them from our heart. By the time we sit down in front of our altar at the appointed time, we are already filled with excitement and love. We know that this puja is the most important thing that we can do as a human. When we start the opening prayers we are transported beyond time and space into the vibrations of the puja, the motions of the puja, the beauty of the puja, the heartfelt longing of the puja and we are ready to welcome our Divine guests. And then there is the interior puja in which we watch the whole puja taking place within. We don't need all the externals. We offering the puja from within to the One within. Jai Maa. Guest guest
I cannot tell of great experience with preparation. Only with worldy things, I would organize various projects to get them done on time, etc. Until Swamiji spoke of preparation, I never thought deeply much on this as related to spiritual matters. Shivapuri Baba [from a book] spoke of preparation of the day and life to devote more time to God, so I believe that was the first time I heard of the topic introduced in this way. I have been more of a "plunger" ... something I desire to do, I do, and dive into it ... zigging and zagging as needed and being on my toes to adapt to changes. Not a long-range planner. So now I am 50 and the Goddess is being kind to me, sending Maa and Swamiji and other good things. But I have work to do, that I want to do, this spiritual work of endless perfection [this joy, really, is what it is] and that requires planning. So, I want to do this, and will jump into this planning -- without any preparation! What is it? Pragmatic caring for the way to make something possible. Specifically -- to be able to integrate the activities and goals into daily life. All the details can be attended to: What TIME am I going to do something [puja, etc.] For HOW LONG am I going to do it? WHAT MATERIALS do I need? HOW DO I EAT AND LIVE during this period? In my own case: What adjustments do I need to make for work and family? Regarding mind and soul, as on Swamiji's list, would mean to contains one's thoughts to the spiritual matter at hand, as much as possible. Mantra, etc., will bring one's attention to the matter and make it easier to address. Finally, I would say, this very conversation on Preparation with the cyber-sangha, that would help us deal with complexities and matters that might otherwise be over-looked.
