Each day has a different commentary by Gurudev and as I was reading I had the thought: "Wow, no matter what words my eyes run across, no matter how my mind interprets them, no matter what underlying emotions I "tune" in to, what is True is True. So, I can read different scripture or poetry or commentary by great saints and they will display the truth in slightly different ways, but the Truth is unchanging. It is just my understanding which might change depending on my mind. In His commentary on the yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Sri Swami Satchidananda says in his commentary on I7: "...we have to understand the difference between the basic truth and the presentation. Truth can be presented only through some form or behicle. We should always remember that the truth of the Self is the same; but when presented to you through words and forms and modes, it may appear in different ways to suit the individual or the trend of the age. That is why, whatever be the scripture, whether from the East, West, South or North, the basic truth should be in agreement." I liked that last part, real Truth will be apparent across many disciplines. Guest guest
Namaste Parvati, You do us honor, and uplift us, with this question. Your question itself, is an expression of Truth. Satsang or Bhav is Truth. Truth, as with God ... it is endless, but we moved into it through some means or form. Shivapuri Baba said, stay in this question, "What Is Truth?" longer and longer each day. Swamiji's comment to see all action as a priveledge; Maa's admonition to be Hanuman; all this leads us to Truth. But what is Truth? That is your question. It is beyond substance of mind and words, but includes it. Truth, for us, is moving towards Truth. Truth is, being Truth in action. Satsang is our expression and still dance of Truth. Action in unity is Truth. The aspect of sincerity is crucial to Truth; over and over, the falsehoods must be uprooted, they are re-discovered, repeatedly, as we progress. Returning to the absolute, we might say: oh, this is truth; but then, when we re-awaken to Maya, what then? Is Truth banished from this realm? Truth cannot be defined, other than such simple, circular statements such as "Truth Is God," etc. The inquiry, however, leads us to it. Truth is an endless expression and inquiry into love and the infinite. There is some sense of moving into a space. Then, the divine Mother is already there, and we are united in that Truth. Here, Truth is present and not a goal. sc , "parv108" <parv108> wrote: > Namaste to all, > > Shree Maa says: "We should serve Truth, even disregarding all > temptation to forsake the Truth." > > Many saints and sages have said, "Paths are many, Truth is > One." > > I would love to hear how you all define Truth. Guest guest
thank you; this is a wonderful, provocative question... it seems to me that truth is what remains when Mother strips away the last bit of gauze of separateness--ego and its attachment/aversion/desire.
