A Lesson from Popular Magazines

Namaste, ALL,

It makes me so happy to see topics repeated and discussed again and

again, especially issues around spiritual practice such as chanting

the Chandi and doing pujas. A topic can't be talked about one time

and then dropped. New members need information. And members like

me need review. (I have heard it said that adults need exposure to

information at least sixteen times to begin to really learn it.)

Once (quite a while back) I asked a question and the response,

though well meant, was something like this, "We discussed that.

Here's the posting number. Go read it."

Magazine editors' common practice is to recycle themes over and

over, sometimes in each issue in the form of columns. Sometimes

they do it seasonally. Even spiritual magazines like Hinduism Today

follow a repetitive format. Imagine how absurd it would be if

magazine editors took the stance that once an idea was published,

that was it. Want to know about it? Go look for a back issue.

Namaste,

Karen
