Guest guest
Namaste ALL, Are there any problems of which to be aware in having message delivery in the form of individual emails? I recall someone warning about a virus. Does that mean that there is a risk of viruses with the individual email form of message delivery? Guest guest
I don't mean to scare anyone, but the truth is: There is always a risk of viruses when dealing with email. Especially if you use Microsoft Outlook. But even if you don't use Outlook, an email attachment can infect your computer if you click on it in any other email reader. That's why its really important to have all the latest patches from Microsoft for your opperating system. (assuming you run Windows, Mac and Linux users don't have this much trouble only because there are less of them in the world and the virus writers like to go for numbers) Its very helpful to not use Internet Explorer because most of the latest rash of viruses exploit holes in its security framework. (get Mozilla Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org) However, I believe screens emails sent to message boards for the latest known viruses. So the group should be a bit more secure than plain email. There is a lot of information on this on the web. I don't have time to look for links but if you search google.com for virus and worm I'm sure you can find a lot of info. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the open nature of the internet has made it very vulnerable to the sick minds of the world. The infrastructure is changing slowly so that hopefully one day we won't have this problem. Brian "In the begining, the universe was created. Guest guest
Karen, I do not get the email digest. However, I have been getting regular viruses in my box for some months now. I have been deleting them (they are easy to recognize by now). But at first, I opened a few of the attachments. scans all its email with Norton Antivirus. Each of the attachments was recognized and refused (as I clicked on it). If you do not have your mail downloaded onto your computer, you should be safe from email attachments, but you should probably still be careful about clicking links from people or places you do not know. Certain viruses are transmitted through links. Guest guest
Namaste ALL, esp Chris and Brian, Your suggestions and reassurances regarding individual email delivery have been wonderful. I am getting message delivery via individual emails as of today, and I love it! I have discovered that EarthLink has a virus scan that checks the emails, and I have seen it actually work. McAfee is also supposed to do that so...I think I feel pretty safe, and I am really grateful for all the information you provided. It's nice to be able to use my OE mailbox's spell check (born bad speller here). Thanks again and again!
