Guest guest
Namaste ALL, It's so good to be learning many new words from this group. Sometimes I need a review, however, and sometimes I just need to learn a new word. Here are a few that have popped up recently that have given me pause. nama japa bhakta sangha Thanks for all the great good help! Guest guest
Namaste Karen, Nama - means Name - thus Rama Nama is the 'Name of Rama' Japa - means constant repetition of a mantra or chanting. Usually done on a string of bija (seed) mantras Bhakta - means a devotee - derived from one who practices Bhakti or devotion Sangha - means a meeting - famous example is Sat (truth) Sangha or a meeting of minds in truth. Guest guest
Namaste', Karen, There's a short Sanskrit glossary at the bottom of the following webpage; scroll down past the article on the Kumbha Mela. I'm a beginner too, so I'm always looking for resources that can help reduce my confusion. http://www.anandamayi.org/devotees/jv/english/km0.htm > [Latha Nanda wrote:] > Nama - means Name - thus Rama Nama is the 'Name of Rama' > Japa - means constant repetition of a mantra or chanting. Guest guest
Namaste ALL esp msbauju, The dictionary for which you provided a link is superb! Easy to use and containing quite a large number of words. How very kind of you to suggest it--not that I won't also take the path of least resistance from time to time and ask group. You know how much water likes to flow downhill!
