Seek out pure company, good associations which will inspire you to make yourself better." --Maa from The Guru and the Goddess I am still thinking about satsanga. That's the same as satsang, right? Linda Johnsen says there are levels of satsang. Is that right? So this really is a level of satsang, right? So if all that is right and true, could connections be made between this kind of satsang and the kind at the ashram? Are they similar in certain ways? Thanks. Guest guest
Satsangha, satsanga, and satsang are all the same. They mean the company of Truth. There is the satsang of being in the company of Holy Ones like Ramakrishna, Swamiji and Shree Maa. This is definitely beneficial to one's spiritual growth. There is also satsang of keeping company with others on the spiritual path. There is even satsang of reading about saints or singing along with CD's of saints. Personally, I don't see it in terms of levels of satsang. It is all good. Whenever we give and receive with others who are aware of God, we benefit, they benefit and God benefits. Our on-line forum and our on-line sankalpas and our on-line classes are all satsang. We are very blessed to have this opportunity. It is very rare. It is truly amazing that we have the technology for this activity and even more that we have the blessings and involvement of Swamiji and Shree Maa. The gurus are making themselves sooooo available to us and we didn't have to go to India or Nepal and climb a mountain and live in a hut! Guest guest
Dear Karen, i chanted Chapter 4 today as part of the Birthday sankalpa of the group ... took me all of ten minutes. Hmm ... but the greater "I" - composed of group members are chanting the other chapters. All "i" had to do , was to spend 10 minutes to get the benefit of the entire Chandi. Is that a great deal or what ? IMHO, this is the power of Satsanga - we put our collective energies together, like the Gods in Chapter 2, She manifests. So my definition - Satsanga is a group of people getting together AND keep the energies focussed on the common goal so that She manifest in all our lives. That group could be in our communities, or an Ashram ,a church or online. Wasnt it Jesus who said "where two or three people are gathered in my name, I shall be in the midst of them, and I will pray with them " That is satsanga - the presence of God , as we are gathered in Her name. Guest guest
Namaste ALL esp Latha, Satsang is an amazing collective, isn't it? The power of prayer, the power of assembly, the power of many ways to get and put inspiration into practice. Thanks for so many expressions of the term. I have been think of Jesus' words. However, having them come out of the group brings a sense of completion, stillness. I am really happy about gaining a deeper understanding of satsang. A week ago, I was baffled by it. And concerned. Reading that Shree Maa says that "the more you move towards satsanga, the closer you come to wise and noble thoughts," I wondered where was the satsang in my life? Did I even have any? Now I know. Guest guest
Dear Shiva, GREAT POST LATHA!! The power of Satanga, how She manifests in our lives, is that we realize we are Her. Everyone and everything is Her. To absorb the essence of any scripture from any religion is to remember who we are. We are God. We change our perception of the "world" when we absorb the Truth of scriptures. We realize, it's all God. We can't perceive reality because reality is perception. We worship to become until we become what we worship. Once we remember who we are the only thing to do is to help others remember and ease their suffering. Every day in every way. We see God in all. And then service to others is the only way our lives are not wasted. That's the "benefit" of all scriptures. To quote Amma, "By realizing our Self, we become full, with nothing left to gain if life. Life becomes perfect." She says, "Be like a stick of incense that allows itself to burn out while giving its fragrance to others." Jai to all that helps us remember.
