Guest guest
Question from Chris : Jayadeva had asked "The verse 14 of Tantroktam Ratri Suktam - " Cause the ignorance of egotism to fall upon those two thoughts so difficult to understand, Too Much & Too Little." , Is this so that they are open to getting fooled into defeat? Can you please comments on this ? " And you had responded " Definitely. When we succumb to egotism, we act from ignorance, and invariably we make mistakes" My follow up to that is Are not Too Much and Too Little already a product of the ignorance of egotism? If they are not, do they stem from higher awareness? (I cannot see how this can be so). If Too Much and Too Little are already the product of the ignorance of egotism, how does making them even more egotistical, more "me" (I'm assuming I'm still bound by egotism) help destroy them? How does it do anything but make "my" perceptions more clouded? Any light you can shed on these questions will be much appreciated. Swamiji's response : So long as we think we are really doing a good job, we remain bound by ego. When we realize that we have really blown it, we open ourselves to the humility that allows learning and growth.
Guest guest
So then (I'm sort of talking to myself - not expecting an answer from Swamiji), when we ask Her to "...cause the ignorance of egotism to fall upon these two thoughts so difficult to understand, Too Much and Too Little," what we're really asking for is the ability to reach toward true humility, the ability to turn to Her, to surrender. Guest guest
It may be that the verse is talking about how we need to see something before we can give it to she who takes away.
