Dear Latha, Though I am still taking baby steps, I would like to help. Is the Ganesh Atharvasirsham something you can put in an email for us? Dear Gina ~ congratulations ... when I had chanted one mantra and saw how many times others had chanted it, I become briefly discouraged and wrote to Latha. Latha helped me see the light, and so, blessings to all who have the sankalpa to chant one or three or eleven or any number of the mantra. I know now it is not the number that counts, but the doing. Now I find, when I chant it, I want more. It is like the Bill Murray movie, "Scrooge," a wonderful modernized version of all the originals that went before it, based on Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol". Those of you who have seen this will know what I mean, but for those who don't, in the movie, Bill Murray is, well, Scrooge, so he is mean, tightfisted with his money and his affections, and egotistical ... a very good model of the Great Ego. Through the experiences he undergoes ~ the meetings with the ghosts ~ he gradually develops bhav. At the end of the movie, he goes on stage and interrupts the televised program he was managing and says something like this: "I understand it now. When you get it, then you have it, and you want more. And you can have more. And you can go out and say, "here, is a sandwich" to a poor person or you can "call an old friend you haven't spoken with in years," or you can say, "by the way, here is a blanket" to someone who is cold. He goes on and on for a bit like this and the movie ends with everyone, including, supposedly the movie or tv audience singing "Put a Little Love in Your Heart." What a wonderful metaphor for the process that unfolds as we develop spiritually ... yes, we want more of that feeling, yet, we also want to share it with others, to give it away in whatever ways we can. You can probably tell by now this is one of my favorite movies. : ) Jai Maa
