Guest guest
Namaste ALL esp Latha, Navaratri date/s are??? Here is something I have been meaning to ask. Celebration dates in the Hindu calendar vary from year to year, I think. Is that right? Based on the moon's cycles, right? So Ganesh's birthday won't be the same date next year. Is that right? I am so slow to get these things. TIA, Karen PS Is there a Sanskrit word for thanks? Also, are words such as "namaste" Sanskrit words? Or are they Hindi words. Both? - Latha Nanda Friday, September 17, 2004 3:12 PM Durga and Chandi and Navaratri and Sankalpas and ...other neat stuff ! Happy Birthday to Ganesh !Yes, in the anticipation of Navaratri just around the corner, it will be great if people can be prepared with a beginner Durga Book, a Chandi Path book (if you dont already have one) and Chandi Path MP3 CD.JAI GANESH !Latha--- In , "Steve Connor" <sconnor@a...> wrote:> hi all> > latha> > does this mean the durga puja book would be the ideal book for the > upcoming hour?> > s
Guest guest
Dear Karen, The Fall Navaratri begins on the 14th of November this year and goes on for 9 days. Yes, it is based on the lunar calendar and varies from year to year. Yes, all of the festivals ,including Ganesh's bday, are based on the lunar calendar and will be on different dates each year. The Sanskrit/Hindi word for thanks is Dhanyavaada. Namaste is of Sanskrit origin but used liberally in Hindi. In reality many (not all but many) of the Sanskrit and Hindi words are interchangeable and it is difficult to say where Sanskrit leaves and Hindi begins.
