BTW, can you explain about "kirtan?"

Dear Karen,

First, yes, I would think of bhajans as sacred musical chants. I am

not sure there is any difference between kirtan and bhajan. If anyone

knows of a difference between the two, I hope they will clarify this

point.

I have a tape of Krishna Das' doing "kirtan," and he calls himself a

"kirtan walla," which I believe means he is the one going the "call,"

and others are doing the "response," singing the same phrase. This is

a most wonderful collection of bhajans. The cd is called "Alive On

Planet Earth," and Krishna Das has a disclaimer on the front (he has

a sense of humor): "be careful playing this cd while driving as the

kirtan walla cannot be responsible: It is so easy to get immersed in

his strong and resonant voice, chanting these sacred words. Other

bhajan tapes I have I have gotten from Ammachi's site. There are

never too many bhajans, IMHO. : ) Shanti ~ Linda

Namaste ALL esp Linda,

The knowledge shared in this forum is a constant source of inspiration

and delight. Learning about kirtan and bhajan is wonderful. Your

explanation, Linda, of bhajan really helped this little community

understand how to sing along with some of the CDs we have. What is

simple to many, is a revelation to a few!

Dhanyavaada!
