Here's one quote that I foundvery touching...Apparently, love has "magical" healing effects! Spiritually-minded people mayknow this already, but it's nice to see that those in the health professionsare starting to study this. Dear Eleathea, Thank you so much for sharing this with us and for giving the website address so we (I) could go and read it. I have known about this for years, yet I put all my hope in doctors and look for that "magic bullet" when the magic bullet is right inside of me. I have been feeling hopeless about my condition lately, and the more hopeless I feel, the sicker I seem to get ... so I need to get cracking and turn it around the other way. Dhanyavaada. Guest guest
Jai Maa! Dear Linda, I sincerely hope that you will explore *every* healing modality available to you, whether that is Western medicine, alternative medicine, dietary modification, prayer, inner work, or mantra chanting. I'm so sorry to hear that you are having trouble maintaining hope these days. Steve was so kind recently to suggest that you be included in the Mrityunjaya mantra (MM) chanting on Saturdays. That will be a great blessing for you. I'm not sure how familiar you are with MM, but in case you or others aren't so familiar, MM is extremely powerful for healing. The reason it's so powerful, in my opinion, is that MM affects not just physical disease and suffering, but emotional and spiritual suffering. Emotional problems include negative states like anger, depression, anxiety, excessive desire, and despair. Spiritual diseases include excessive egoism, delusion, and so on. MM goes right to the root of all these problems, by working on an energetic level. MM is the essence of all the mantras contained in the Rudram, an extremely powerful Vedic chant in honor of Lord Shiva. The purpose of the mantras in the Rudram is to burn every kind of negativity in ourselves and in the world. By burning the negativity, we make room for positivity to enter and we destroy the seeds of future suffering. MM contains a very intelligent healing energy that adds energy to any of our chakras that might be deficient. When the chakras function properly, the physical and emotional bodies will come into a state of health. MM is good not just for healing, but also for warding off accidents. Another great benefit is that MM creates an energetic shield in our auras, such that negativity from the environment or other people cannot harm us. In fact, the first advice I received from my guru was to chant MM every day, so that negativity from other people would not hurt my body or mind. In addition to being good for us, MM is important for world peace as it helps to purify all negativity in the atmosphere. When people engage in violent behavior or indulge in a lot of negative mind-states, it puts a lot of psychic pollution into the atmosphere. Saints can see that very clearly. This psychic pollution then makes it harder for positivity to manifest in that area. When MM is chanted (or played on a tape), the vibrations spread throughout space and help to purify all the negativity, which benefits many people, no matter what their personal beliefs are. America is very lucky that Shree Maa and Swamiji are living here and are conducting so many yajnas and pujas. This is a tremendous boon for this land, and when we support them or do our own chanting and puja, we participate in that blessing effort. So we're very lucky to have access to these teachings and practices. Thousands of years ago, India's rishis meditated for hundreds of years together in order to discover powerful mantras and teachings for humanity. They were not ordinary people, and the mantras they discovered came directly from the cosmos. MM was given to humanity specifically for healing every kind of disease or negativity. There are 3 main ways to benefit from MM. One can chant it out loud. This can be done 21, 54, or 108 times daily, as desired. It's very good to chant it every day, as this keeps the energy vibrations strong in one's aura. It's good to chant MM 21 times before traveling anywhere, to avoid or lessen the impact of any accidents. When chanting, it's good to wear any kind of rudraksha beads, or to count the mantras on a rudraksha mala. Rudraksha beads have special energetic properties that combine with the healing vibrations of MM to magnify the energetic effect. Another way to benefit is to listen to a tape/CD of MM or listen to it with headphones. This is good if one feels too sick to sit up and chant, or if one doesn't have confidence in one's pronunciation yet. As Swamiji said, the power of MM comes from every aspect of the mantra, the sounds, the tones, and the rhythm. So it's good to listen to it chanted by someone like Shree Maa over and over again until one learns the pronunciation well. The last way to benefit is to play the MM for large periods of time in one's home or puja room, whether one is listening or not. This will add MM's healing vibrations to that space, and then just sitting in that area will aid one's healing. Playing MM very softly during sleep would help in getting good rest, especially since the body goes through a lot of healing processes during sleep. If one is very sick, one should listen to MM as much as possible to really saturate oneself with the MM energy. You can't hear MM too much. In my personal experience, MM always makes me feel better. Sometimes, that means that my physical situation is improved. Sometimes it means that I still feel sick physically, but my inner attitude and experience is transformed to one of calm acceptance and equanimity. Sometimes, MM may initiate a "healing crisis", where symptoms seem to increase, before being released. Once when I had nausea and was lying in bed, listening to MM made me start to feel kind of agitated. It almost felt like the nausea was increasing, but then I started to cry, and I felt like some painful energy was being released from my heart. After "crying it out", I just rested with MM playing in my bedroom. I felt tingly sensations in my body, and felt very calm and peaceful. In another situation, a devotee with some emotional issues was talking to me intensely. As she talked, I could feel a headache starting. At some point, I excused myself from the conversation to join with others in chanting MM. As I chanted, the pain gradually reduced and then disappeared. But there was a break in the chanting, the woman began talking to me again, and my headache was coming back. So I politely ended the conversation and chanted MM some more, and my headache once again disappeared. If we interact with people who have disturbances in their energy fields, this can affect our own energy fields adversely. My personal response to energy disturbances is to get a headache or stomache, or become very depressed for no apparent reason. I seem to have very weak defenses. MM helps to protect us from this effect. Linda, I know you live in a trailer right now, so I don't know what your electricity situation is, or if you have a tape/CD player at the moment. If you need anything, like a tape/CD of MM, or a walkman or player, I have extras of all of these and I'd be happy to send you whatever you need, if you like. Just let me know. I hope everyone will use MM to their benefit in order to perform excellent sadhana with a strong, healthy body and a cheerful mind. Jai Maa!
