But Swamiji has said on another occassion "There are many levels of diksha. One meaning is "Blessing." Another meaning is the transference of spiritual authority. Another meaning is a physical ceremony in which a mantra is communicated. You will have to decide for yourself on what level you have received diksha, and whether or not you want to go deeper. " You might also want to check the following question 52. How important is Diksha in a spiritual practice? at http://www.shreemaa.org/faq.htm JAI MAA Latha
Guest guest
Respected MAA, I am a new member in this divine group and have some doubts on reciting durga saptashati and SKS.. I am doing lalitha sahasranama pooja for the last one year and this year during navaratri onwards wants to read and recite durga saptashati and SKS. Also chamunda mantra before and after reciting DSS. But people are discourging and warning me not to do that..as it requires guru initiation and teaching..can you advise me suitably...i really wants to read the devi mahatmiyam and durga saptashati......please advice me ? sriganeshh , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > > Namaste ALL esp Latha, > > > > What is initiation? > > > > TIA > > ====================== > > Namaste Karen, > > IMHO, Initiation aka Diksha is a confirmation of the Guru Disciple > relationship. > > But Swamiji has said on another occassion > > "There are many levels of diksha. Guest guest
Namaste SriGanesh, Welcome to the group. Several people have asked this question - can they recite the Navarna mantra, Siddha Kunjika Stotram, Saptasati without initiation. Here is what Swamiji has to say - and this was first posted in March - post #2898 Swamiji says ... Begin quote ====== The Navarna mantra should be received in initiation, but that is not always possible. There are no ill effects of reciting the mantra without initiation, if you have the intention of self purification, but the energy contained in the mantra is ever so much more potent after having received it from a qualified guru. In the absence of such a relationship, if you are devoted to the Divine Mother, then recite Her mantras with full faith, and when the circumstances permit, She will bring the appropriate guru to give you initiation. This is true for all mantras performed with the intention of self purification. If you have other intentions, please consult a qualified teacher. ======= End of quote So, SriGanesh - hope that answered your question and clarified any doubts that you may have. Please let me know of additional questions. Guest guest
Shri SriganeshhJi I have lalita Sahasranaam in a CD but not in written text. Can you please tell him where you got the lalita Sahasranaam book to recite. I would like to start reciting it. I have read about the wonders of lalita Sahasranaam recitation and maybe if you wish you can share some experiences with it. Jai Lalita Abma Maa Jay Dayal. Guest guest
Namaskar Lathaji, Thanks for your reply.. I feel it is better to share some background info. I always recited lalitha sahasranama without anybody telling me after reading abt the same in magazine. Even when my life took a turn and went upside down..i haven't given up that..believing it is my own karma i am facing and sincerely believed that in fact recitation alone saved me from more suffering..I even started talking to mother saying that if you feel it is wrong..you make me give up..i am on my own not going to stop...at that time..when i went to my native place...incidently i met sri rajarajeshwari or lalithambica devi upasaka...and he told me to meet him in the next day morning during prayer timing..there he told me to sit and after making me to watch his prayers for almost an hour..gave me one lemon with devi maa installed in it..and told me to do lalitha sahasranama pooja specially using kumkum (vermilon)...it is almost now more than a year..(the lemon is still as fresh as ever and he specially told me dont give up doing this pooja). I took it as devi's blessings and she has accepted my recitation. With pooja kumkum she is really doing wonderful things in the lives of the people who are coming across me..Now offlate i am coming across this feeling of recitation of durga saptashati and navavarna mantra and sks..but the threatening are so much i really felt scared and started to ask my mother in pooja and suddenly on my browsing i came across DEVI MANDIR and the first question is initiation aka diksha...so incidental but i took it as mother coming through net for me to answer my doubts... My intention to do this just to experience divine blessings and self purification...and nothing else. I dont want anything in this life except all the goodies and ashirvad of the gods to my parents..as long as they are happy, i will be happy. For me mother and father is first gods. I want to give them as much punya as possible by worshipping the gods with special prayers that please give all my punya to my parents and take care of them. As i am living faraway, i am not able to do anything for them personally... Nothing more i need as they have given me everything in this life. Thanks so much for replying and once again seek blessings from you all in my journey.. sriganeshh
Guest guest
Sriganeshh Your post was very moving. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful experience with Divine Mother. Your faith and devotion are an inspiration to me. I hope you find what you need in the Durga Saptashati, and I hope you find some joy here, as well.
