Re: Today

Ganesh is in my Home and Heart(h)

Jai Mata Di

In our little Temple

in my yard we will be celebrating on the 14,15,16,and 17 of October. Then I

will join others in the continued celebrations for the next 5 days.

In my own little way I

usually make a garland with lime or lemon also fresh flowers garland.

Gave all the Idols new clothing. I tried to create a very festive

atmosphere.Lots and lots of flowers.

On the first day we have

a priest come and he will do PUJA for all the Dieties and the main one being

DURGA MAA is usually done last. During the nine nights we usually cut five lime

scoop out the inside then fill it up with Ghee put in a wick and light it and

use that as a deepa to do aartie.

In the evening He

(priest) will gave lectures and Bhajans. This will be done in a grand way for

the first four days. Unfortunately, we wont be able to do it that way all nine

nights since the priest have other committments

However, in my own little

way I will continue to do the Aartie with the lime.

I will let you know how

it goes.

ALL esp Dolly,

Your

descriptions of the Ganesh celebration in your temple is so very helpful.

Your posts will be printed and added to a file for next year's

celebration. You have no idea how much you help a person like me

understand and begin to act. May I ask you please to talk about what will

be happening in your temple regarding Navaratri? Is there anything that

you feel might also be done in my home? Your kindness in helping new

people is amazing!

Heartfelt

thanks many times over,

The Temple

is a Ganesh Temple

with south Indian traditions. They decorated HIM for nine days. The yathra is

when they place a beautifully decorated Ganesh murtie in a silver charriot and

walk him in the streets. I beleived they took him around four square

blocks three times and they were musicians sitting in the back of a pickup

playing shenai music and there was a dhool wala i.e. one guy who play a huge

drum with very nice music that will make your feet dance even if you don't want

to dance Everyone was in a festive mode. I did not walk with them this year as

I was very tired. You know I have been going there from 730am for the nine dayS

of celebration and on the last two days we had the remnants of Ivan,

it got really cold suddenly, so I stayed in the Temple. I was told that

in the evening they would emerse small Ganesh murties in water. I did not

stayed for that however I hope next year I will be able to stay.

ALL esp Dolly,

The

Ganesh update is great. How many days do you decorate Ganesh? Are

the alankars traditional? What is a "yathra"? A

"DhollWhala"? As you say, "all good things must come to an

end"; however, the hope is that you won't end and you will keep us posted

on the events at your temple. So kind of you!

The Ganesh Sankalpa that we have been doing this

Maybe, Swaamiji or Maa can gave us some more indebt info in this. I

remember one priest said that when we offer lime to Maa is asking HER

to remove all bitterness that we have in our lifes especially for each

other. I might say that depends on the size of the Murtie you can

make it accordingly but should be odd in numbers. 9 11 15 etc.
