Guest guest
Namaste ALL esp Dolly, Thank you for your postings about Ganesh Chaturthi and Navaratri. They are much appreciated. Would you please be so kind as to tell how you make the lime garland? Is there a reason why limes are used? Dhanyavaada, Karen - Lall and Dolly Singh Friday, September 24, 2004 8:11 AM Re: Today Ganesh is in my Home and Heart(h) Jai Mata Di In our little Temple in my yard we will be celebrating on the 14,15,16,and 17 of October. Then I will join others in the continued celebrations for the next 5 days. In my own little way I usually make a garland with lime or lemon also fresh flowers garland. Gave all the Idols new clothing. I tried to create a very festive atmosphere.Lots and lots of flowers. On the first day we have a priest come and he will do PUJA for all the Dieties and the main one being DURGA MAA is usually done last. During the nine nights we usually cut five lime scoop out the inside then fill it up with Ghee put in a wick and light it and use that as a deepa to do aartie. In the evening He (priest) will gave lectures and Bhajans. This will be done in a grand way for the first four days. Unfortunately, we wont be able to do it that way all nine nights since the priest have other committments However, in my own little way I will continue to do the Aartie with the lime. I will let you know how it goes. Your posts will be printed and added to a file for next year's celebration. You have no idea how much you help a person like me understand and begin to act. May I ask you please to talk about what will be happening in your temple regarding Navaratri? Is there anything that you feel might also be done in my home? Your kindness in helping new people is amazing! Heartfelt thanks many times over, Karen - Lall and Dolly Singh Tuesday, September 21, 2004 8:48 AM Re: Today Ganesh is in my Home and Heart(h) The Temple is a Ganesh Temple with south Indian traditions. They decorated HIM for nine days. The yathra is when they place a beautifully decorated Ganesh murtie in a silver charriot and walk him in the streets. I beleived they took him around four square blocks three times and they were musicians sitting in the back of a pickup playing shenai music and there was a dhool wala i.e. one guy who play a huge drum with very nice music that will make your feet dance even if you don't want to dance Everyone was in a festive mode. I did not walk with them this year as I was very tired. You know I have been going there from 730am for the nine dayS of celebration and on the last two days we had the remnants of Ivan, it got really cold suddenly, so I stayed in the Temple. I was told that in the evening they would emerse small Ganesh murties in water. I did not stayed for that however I hope next year I will be able to stay. What is a "yathra"? A "DhollWhala"? As you say, "all good things must come to an end"; however, the hope is that you won't end and you will keep us posted on the events at your temple. So kind of you! You are so right in bringing that to the group's attention and mentioning that, without them, this lovely cyber satsang would not even exist. Namaste, Karen - vasantha_mallan Friday, September 17, 2004 5:26 PM Today Ganesh is in my Home and Heart(h) Dear all,We celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi today at home with puja, arati, flowers, modaks , and lots and lots of love. The Ganesh Sankalpa that we have been doing this last week - the mantra chanting, the Atharvashirsham all helped set the mood and tone for the celebration today. Ganesh REALLY came home today and blessed all of us.It is our great fortune that we have Shree Maa and Swamiji blessing us this way with our satsang - we are truly an online family and it is all possible because of them.My pranams to Maa and Swamiji , again and again.Jai Ganesh !Jai Maa !Vasantha New and Improved Mail - Send 10MB messages! Guest guest
>Question from Rajan: >As Navraatri is coming, I would like to know is the whole period >devoted to Ma Durga puja for nine and then the tenth day >or prayers also done on Ma Laxmi and saraswati? What sort of prayers >are done during this period? >Can Lalita strotam also be recited? >Swamiji's response : >We perform the entire Cosmic Puja every day. That includes Mahakali, >Mahalakshmi, and Mahasarasvati. >Lalita can also be recited, but Chandi Path is not to be neglected. Also, if I may contribute my experince of Navaratri here, two places where I have been present for the 9 day homa and recitation of Chandi: they are usually chanting Chandi Path and doing homa in the morning, puja to the Devi (Durga-3days, Lakshmi-3 days and Saraswati-3days) in the afternoon and, in the evening, Lalitha Sahasranama Vali with kum kum offered after each name of Sri Lalitha. At the end, Suvasini Puja etc. I am sure that this is the tradition in these particular Temples but...having Swamiji to give us the tradition of Devi Mandir is very great, especially since we can ask him questions! best love, sadhvi
