Dear ms and Ardis and everyone who is interested in the topic of angels, In my studies and experience of shamanism (and I believe that tantra is essentially a very shamanic type of work), halos around the heads of shamans go all the way back to cave drawings. It has been posited that the halo is a kind of light energy emenated from the shaman (or angel or deva) that is a reflection of their abilities, including the ability to traverse between the worlds of life and death, or in shamanistic terms, the lower world, the upper world, and the world or ordinary reality.
