Guest guest
Dear Latha, Om Namah Shivayah! My mind wanders a lot when chanting (or watches the movies as Maa says). Yesterday, when I was chanting the Lalitha Sahasranama, one thing helped: Placing each mantra in different parts of the body starting with the top of the head and all the way down to the toes and back. This is also known as the 61 point exercise. Second thing that I do is to bring the book close up to my eyes and chant. Third, (not recommended if you are concerned about your neighbours) I chant loudly when I am alone. Fourth, I pinch myself really hard when I am falling asleep as I chant. Swamiji's recommendation to say the Guru mantra in your mind before each verse also helps me as it gives my mind very little space to think about anything else. My two paise - hope it helps! Jai Maa! Jai Swamiji! sincerely yours, srini
