Guest guest
Swamiji, The Atman is said to be the same as Brahman. It is also said there is no difference between Shiva and the Absolute. The Atman is said to share every aspect of our life, to observe everything, and yet remain unaffected. It is said to be very near. When we perform praana pratishthaa we establish Him within, and then affirm to Shiva (in this case) "you are the life of this life, you are situated in this life, you are all these organs [senses?] (of action and knowledge)," and then, "you are all these vibrations, mind, sound, eyes, ears, tongue, nose, and life force." Ostensibly, when we perform praana pratishthaa and establishment within, we are establishing Shiva in the heart chakra and enlivening His presence. If Shiva is the same as the Atman, and the Atman is already possessed of this relationship with us, what then is happening when we perform this ritual? What is the effect of this ritual on the subtle and causal levels? What is the difference between the consciousness of Shiva and the Atman? Thanks, Chris
Guest guest
The purpose of all sadhana is to clear our mind-field of energy wasting unconscious mental mechanisms. Praying and performing sadhana merely frees us from our non-selves so we can realize the truth that is perfectly self evident. Brian
Guest guest
Brian, Your point is perfectly true. But there is another aspect to sadhana besides the individual perspective, and that is the relationship with the beloved. Latha's comment from Swamiji described it very nicely as "moving from my world into Hers." The joy of any relationship is in developing intimacy with the other, learning what she likes and doesn't like, how she looks first thing in the morning, the details of her life before you met, and all the little details of her day to day life. When we are talking about a normal relationship these details are complex enough, but when we are talking about a love relationship with the creator, sustainer, and destroyer of the universe, it becomes very complex indeed. This is why Swamiji says there is never an end to enlightenment, because there is always more to learn about the beloved. Freed from the normal constraints of the personality, how does the enlightened one fill his time - serving and learning about his beloved, and growing in love and appreciation of her as a result. The sages spend many lifetimes learning and perfecting the subtle sciences, not because they desire power, but to grow in love and in service to Her. Guest guest
Narad Muni was cursed by his Father, Lord Brahma. "You will always run around asking questions." Brahma made him a trouble maker. Brahma made him one of the active ingredients, a catalyst in the universe. Why lord Brahma cursed his son is not the point. The effect of the curse and the experiences felt by those affected by the curse is the point of the curse. Even Narad did not ask, "Why have you cursed me?" He merely went around doing what he was cursed to do. Why wonder why? Why not experience? Brian At 09:20 PM 10/6/2004, you wrote: >Brian, > >Your point is perfectly true.
