Guest guest
Swamiji read aloud the English translation of the Sadhana Panchakam (available in the Advanced Shiva Puja book) to us last night. FYI - The Sadhana Panchakam is five verses for spiritual sadhaks composed by Adi Shankaracharya . Its meaning is still relevant now. I give the excerpt of verse 2 "Whenever possible seek out the company of the true and knowledgeable people, and serve the sandals of their lotus feet, and ask from them even one letter of the knowledge of Brahman and listen to the great words of wisdom from the Vedas." He paused there for a second allowing us to absorb the meaning. I took advantage of the pause and quickly asked "So please give us a letter of knowledge Swamiji" He said and I paraphrase " The Sadhana Panchakam is saying it all" and he continued and completed verses 3,4 and 5. At the end of it all he looked at me and said 'Ah'... I went "huh?" He again said "Ah"... and I thought he meant "awe" I asked him "I sure am in awe of you Swamiji but I dont understand.... oh you are giving me a letter of wisdom !!!... I get it now" " I said 'Ah' ... you can learn the 'aa', 'e', 'ee' etc from her" , he said , pointing to a devotee that is well versed in Sanskrit. So thats the letter of wisdom that I got ! Ah ! Guest guest
Namaste All, Reminded me of the Tirukkural chapters 1. In Praise Of God and 40. Learning 1 Alphabets all have 'A' as their origin ; the world has the primordial God as its origin. 392 Those which people call numbers and those others which they call letters, these two are said (by the wise) to be eyes to noble human beings.
