Guest guest
Swamiji translates this asura's name as "The Great Deceiver." Mahahanuh is not some part of myself that I can put a finger on. So you guys have to help me out. Is he deceiving me? Is he deceiving those around me? Just what is the deception? And why does it exist? If we can't figure this out, we'll have to ask Swamiji just who is this Mahahanuh... Brian --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
he has deceived us into thinking we have been deceived ... why this happened we will not know until we are realized again. until then, we can say, the goddess threw us into this, and the goddess will lift us out again ... grace = krpa, to do and to get ... like the christian version, god helps those who help themselves ... exactly what the deception is ... the belief we are only these separated beings, inside this flesh wall, with these feelings and emotions, and not an emanation of infinite being. fancy words! until then, we can do our best to honor and respect god, in this way we look past all asuras, your goddess sees this, and she puts them down. steve , Brian McKee <brian@s...> wrote: > Swamiji translates this asura's name as "The Great Deceiver." > > Mahahanuh is not some part of myself that I can put a finger on. Guest guest
Great answer, Steve! We don't need to know the answers to everything (as if we could!) The Great Deceiver for me is the voice that says "oh come on, Ardis. Your sadhana is not going to make any difference. Why work so hard? Come on... sit on the couch... have a cookie... and while you're at it, why don't you watch some TV?" The Great Deceiver is the one that tells me that I don't make any difference in the Universe; that I am just this mind and body; that I don't even matter to the Great Mother or my gurus much less that I can Unite with Them. Guest guest
Hello All, I forget where this one is, but whenever I run across it I always think of the Christian Satan. Despite all the modern notions (fear) about Satan, really, to my recollection only two attributes are specifically mentioned regarding him. He has the power to grant earthly pleasures (Jesus in the desert), and (this is the most often mentioned attribute) he is a liar. He is called The Deceiver. He is called the Father of Lies, who lied from the beginning. Sounds a lot like Mahahanuh. Maa has often mentioned the importance of truth as sadhana in the Kali Yuga. Here is what I believe about truth and lies. If you fall victim to a lie the truth is obscured for you in that area of knowledge, but if you lie your ability to perceive truth itself is obscured. Do not make an ally of Mahahanuh! Guest guest
What you said is right on. If one lies, their ability to perceive truth is obscured. We can see examples of this all around us. When one fails to be in truth, one lies to oneself. This is very subtle. One can see that when someone is not in truth, they begin to believe the un truth they have put out there. Since everything effects everything else, one's un truth can color one's entire perception of reality in subtle ways. As we know, subtle is more powerful than obvious. The danger is to fall into the trap of not being in our truth at all times. It requires constant vigilance - every moment is an opportunity for practice. Maybe that's why Shree Maa and Ramakrishna say that truth is the great tapasya for Kali yuga. Swami Ji says that a sanyasin is one who "lives truth" - that's the meaning of sanyas, to live truth. Perhaps Sanyas is the ultimate goal in the end, but only after we've completed all our duty to family and humanity. For most of us, that will come toward the end of our lifetime. But in the meantime, we can assume the attitude of sanyas and practice "living truth" till we fully embrace it. Jai Maa! Guest guest
Nirmala, What you said was very profound. In the end, I think it is the sincere effort, even just the desire, sometimes, to abide in truth that is important. Living in samsara, in maya, living under the yoke of the lower ego, it really is impossible to live entirely in truth...but we try. We look to our examples, in faith and hope, and we practice, practice practice, and perhaps one day Truth will become our resting place. Until then, I at least, muddle along as best I can, trying to remain at peace with myself and with the world, and pray my mistakes won't be my undoing. Jai Maa! Guest guest
I have always been very truthful. Its a quality I inherited from my earthly mother (and from Maha Maa as well). But I have found that just because I am truthful doesn't mean that I always speak the truth, because truth is relative. So when it comes to defining the word truth, I've changed it to mean "honest intention." I intend to be truthful. I think Maa likes that.
