Navaratri and Question for the Group - Truth (Revisit)

Namaste All,

 

Navaratri ! Valli, Vani Surina, Tara Shanti, Chandi Umadevi and me

hiked from 8,000 feet

to close to 10,000 in the Manzano Mountains of New Mexico. We were the only ones on

the trail and the summit on 10/15/04. Durga Puja at the summit and 32 names of Durga

repeated 11 times beginning at 8,000 and ending at 10,000 feet ! The

view to the east about

75 miles ? and to the west more than 100 due to distant peaks. Peace

of All was obvious in

all directions. The residual effect of repeating 32 names of Durga 11

times each day during

Navaratri, brings a blessing for our family that no words can explain.

 

Truthfulness from the Tirukkural

 

291 If you ask what truthfullness is, it is saying that which has

not the least bit of evil in it.

 

292 Falsehood too ranks as truthfulness if it produces flawless good.

 

293 Let not a person utter a lie which his heart is aware of ; if

he utters a lie, his heart itself will brand him.

 

294 If a person would conduct himself conscientiously without

telling a lie, he would live in the hearts of all the world.

 

295 If a man would speak the truth conscientiously, he would

be superior to men who perform thavam along with charitable deeds.

 

296 There is no greater glory than not telling lies; without any

exertion it will give one all other righteousness.

 

297 If one would practise non-uttering of lies and non-uttering of lies only,

there is no harm, no harm at all, in not doing other deeds of

righteousness.

 

298 External purity is achieved by water; internal purity will

be evident by truthfulness.

 

299 Not all lamps are lamps; to perfect men the lamp of non-lying

is lamp indeed.

 

300 In all the books which we have found to be true, we have

not found anything superior to truthfulness.
