Guest guest
Namaste to all, Many thanks to Shree Maa and Swamiji and to all of you for your inspiration in keeping the light of wisdom and devotion burning. If anyone is interested in taking a sankalpa or vow for 9 days(Navaratri vrat) based on Swamiji's recommendation it will begin Nov.2-Tuesday (6th day of dark fortnight)-Nov.11.Thursday(new moon or no moon, amavasya). Since Thursday, Nov. 11 is Kali puja and Friday, Nov. 12 is Diwali, the Festival of Lights, and marks a new beginning, one possible sankalpa to take during this time is to chant the 1000 names of Kali every day for the 9 days starting Nov.2. -Nov.11. If anyone would like to join me in this sankalpa or has another sankalpa they will like to take for these 9 days could you please share your thoughts, inspirations with the group. Looking forward to hearing your ideas.
Guest guest
Parvati, I definitely wish to participate. I am hoping to come up with some sankalpa related to the Guru Gita as Maa instructed to study that text. Perhaps Ham Sah. Do you think that is a good idea, or the Kali mantra? Parvati, could you address a question here. Mostly sankalpas seem to be related to the number of repititions of a text or mantra. Can you help -- when the mood is very slow ... is there another form of sankalpa. Perhaps related to time, not repititions? For example, not speaking, or doing a Puja, or arati, or learning to recite a block of the Guru Gita by heart. Or, is that the wrong approach. Also, I am embarrassed to say, I am hopeless with the creating of the sankalpa itself, I will be asking you or Latha for help in formulating the words and tithaus, etc. I might have lost that calendar in our move, I will be looking for it today. Peace, thank you for supporting our sadhana, Steve Steve , "parv108" <parv108> wrote: > > > Namaste to all, > > Many thanks to Shree Maa and Swamiji and to all of you for > your inspiration in keeping the light of wisdom and devotion > burning. > > If anyone is interested in taking a sankalpa or vow for 9 > days(Navaratri vrat) based on Swamiji's recommendation it will > begin Nov.2-Tuesday (6th day of dark > fortnight)-Nov.11.Thursday(new > moon or no moon, amavasya). > > Since Thursday, Nov. 11 is Kali puja and Friday, Nov. 12 is > Diwali, the Festival of Lights, and marks a new beginning, > one possible sankalpa to take during this time is to chant the > 1000 names of Kali every day for the 9 days starting Nov.2. > -Nov.11. > > If anyone would like to join me in this sankalpa or has another > sankalpa they will like to take for these 9 days could you please > share your tho u ghts, inspirations with the group. > > Looking forward to hearing your ideas. Guest guest
Thousand names of Kali is a good sankalpa for me and I am happy to do it. The names are found on pages 117 - 225 of the Kali Puja book. Shree Maa does a CD of the thousand names; it runs about 63 minutes. She is reciting very slowly and clearly so it would be a good way to learn the names. - parv108 Sunday, October 31, 2004 10:44 PM Navaratri sadhana anyone? Guest guest
Dear Steve, Here is my understanding of Sankalpa. Sankalpa is a commitment with intention, something you are are vowing to do, to complete, with an intention for the good of at least someone (youself or others). Once you make a sankalpa, you focus upon it and complete it - no matter what! So only take on something that you are ready to give yourself to. I look forward to getting the insights from others on this. Thanks for bringing it up here. blessings, jayadeva , "Steve Connor" <sconnor@a...> wrote: > > > Parvati, > > I definitely wish to participate. > > I am hoping to come up with some sankalpa related to the Guru Gita as > Maa instructed to study that text. Guest guest
Dear Parvati, thank you so much for putting this before us. I would like to join in and take advantae of my sanghas support once again. hurray! So here is the sankalpa that I am making... to chant the Guru Gita each day for the next 9 days in Sanskrit and also read the English. The chanting will be done in one sitting and the English will happen as it does throughout the day. As this is a Navaratri commitment, I will open and end each of the recitations with a Mala of the 32 Names of Durga. I ask for Maa's blessing and assistance. thanks Jai Maa! jayadeva , "parv108" <parv108> wrote: > > > Namaste to all, > > Many thanks to Shree Maa and Swamiji and to all of you for > your inspiration in keeping the light of wisdom and devotion > burning. > -Nov.11. > > If anyone would like to join me in this sankalpa or has another > sankalpa they will like to take for these 9 days could you please > share your thoughts, inspirations with the group. > > Looking forward to hearing your ideas. Guest guest
Steve, I assumed that with the instruction to study the Guru Gita through the winter, we were also to chant it daily. I have been doing so...was I mistaken about this? Guest guest
Namaste Parvati, Did you mean for this sankalpa to be a group sankalpa ? ie everyone chants a certain text (1000 names of Kali for example) for 9 days, or each person defines what they choose to be sankalpa for 9 days (Steve does Guru Gita, Michael does 1000 names of Kali) - ie each person is part of the sankalpa but do their own thing. If this is the case (9 days but each does their own text) , please count me in ! I would like to chant selections from the Chandi everyday. Great idea ! Thanks Parvati. Guest guest
Namaste, If we start on November 2 and count it as #1, wouldn’t November 10 be #9? Then we could do Kali Puja on November 11 and celebrate Diwali on November 12. Thank you for clarifying this. Ardis Namaste to all, Many thanks to Shree Maa and Swamiji and to all of you for your inspiration in keeping the light of wisdom and devotion burning. Guest guest
Thanks Parvati for sharing this. Along with the 1000 names, I have included the worship of the nine planets- reciting each mantra 11 times along with performing puja to Goddess Kali for the entire 9 day period .
