Nava means 9. 108- There are 54 letters of the Sanskrit alphabet. The letters of the sanskrit are the bij mantras for all of the objects that can possibly come into evolution. There are 54 vibrations of evolution and 54 vibrations of involution. This equals 108. 3 years- In Chapter 13 of the Chandi verse 13 it says that the business man and the king propitiated the Goddess for 3 years Dear Parvati ~ thank you very much, but being the iquisitive mouse, I still have two questions. Since you said that there could be 9 day sankalpas every month, not necessarily focused on Durga, is there a further significance to the number 9? From my (western, metaphysical) perspective, 9 is the number of inner wisdom, but even more, it is the number of one who goes within to find that true wisdom, then radiates it out to all. I also wonder about the number 1,000 because I have seen that come up a lot. And what of 11? One of the sankalpas we were given for Navaratri, which I did, and continue, is chanting the 32 names of Durga 11 times. Why 11? Hope I am not being a bother, but this is very interesting to me.
