Guest guest
Swamiji, Our beloved kitty just died suddenly, and Loretta and I were quite attached to the little guy. In the Christian tradition it would generally be considered ridiculous to perform any rites for an animal, but the Vedic tradition teaches that all of life is essentially tat purusha, struggling through the rounds of births and deaths until self-realization. So, what is your belief about performing rites for beloved pets. I would like to give our kitty whatever small aid I can in his new journey. I know that, if nothing else, it will provide some needed closure for Loretta. I intend to perform a homa tomorrow, with Savitri Gayatri. Is this ok? Would you make any recommendations for someone with no understanding of the proper rituals? We will be burying him, since the size of the fire needed to cremate seems unwieldy.
