Guest guest
Swamiji, I asked, and you responded: Somewhat related, in the Shiva puja, when offering flowers to the various murtis of Shiva in the eight directions, we offer to Soma in the south. It made me wonder if death and rebirth are then part of the somavijnana. It seems logical.. Swamiji's response : Actually Soma resides in the North. Please take a look at the Yantra in the Shiva Advanced book on page 217 and the mantra on page 218. Yes, I had noticed some difference a while back and was going to ask about it, but I got distracted and it slipped my mind. This particular offering (to the eight directions) is on p. 119 in my book. It occurs after placing the mantra in the ten directions, and the five aspects of Shiva in the fingers. It makes offering to the eight directions, from the gross (earth, kshiti muurttaye) to the subtle (iishaanaaya suurya muurttaye), in a counter-clockwise direction. Looking at the reference you gave I noticed it goes in the standard clockwise direction, from north to northeast, etc. I also noticed that the positions of the elements or dieties seems to be reversed, almost mirror images (but not quite). For instance, the in the section I referenced, iishaanaaya surya is placed in the SE. In the yantra section you referenced, iishaanaaya is placed in the NE. I wonder if you would explain this a bit. I suspect it may have to do with changing reference points, ie. looking down from the heavens, rather than looking up to the heavens from the earth, but I should like to learn more...and why, if that's the case, offer from the gross to the subtle, instead of the other way around? I am at your feet, Chris
